I have been a hybrid for several months now...MRM, CM4000 and Defender 4440. The good thing about having picked this template (through sheer luck) is that it was not nerfed in any way, since all the force stuff is passive. I can still carry my rifle.
If I have to try to be as objective as possible, I would have to say that it is an above average template. I will attempt (objectively if I can manage it) to list the strengths and weaknesses of hybrid temps like mine:
Strengths:
- It is unexpected. You are much stronger than you appear.
- Overall, the defense is fantastic. 5400 armor (with the 4440 build) and defenses around 800 with Aura running
- Your tanking ability is impressive.
- Snares and Roots are not a problem. Let them waste a few rounds using them...you can still blast away. This is a major advantage.
- With a good weapon, your offensive output is decent. Considering you have no range issues, you are pretty dangerous.
- You can heal just as well as any CM template...and because of your high defenses, your mind will generally last longer
- You can carry a powerful kinetic rifle
- Your low force pool will not be an issue in most cases. Most fights will end way before Aura drains your force.
Weaknesses:
- DoTs still hurt.
- Your innate speed and accuracy are not great, and this could kill you if you get your speed de-buffed. You will want to consider investing tons of cash into speed tapes (or using speed pups in the interim)
- Other Defender templates will be really tough for you to damage.
- No meaningful crowd control...you can occasionally use the firearm strike (marksman melee KD) to good effect, with a StartleShot thrown in here and there, but otherwise you have nothing.
- It is fairly dull at times...no flashy saber skills, and not a great variety of interesting specials.
- If you want to grind with this template, you only have the default saber hit attack.
All in all, I have found out this template is very strong compared to most other templates. You will have a hard time against other defenders unless you kite very well (or unless their sabers stink). CM dots and debuffs hurt if you get all of them on you at once, but I think that you can remedy that with some extra speed - that might sound like an odd remedy, but my experience has been that you get stuck in a healing loop and the cooldown becomes so slow that you have no time to attack. It will, however, rip apart any BH that doesnt stick dots on you.
i heard that Mswordsman builds do serious damage in PvE. Anyone tried it in PvP?

Laf, Your force pool would be too low to maintain cloak with all the agro and creatures/npcs around I would guess. Would be kinda cool. We need someone to test it!

i am thinking of going TKM/master enhancer/4000 healer. i have tested with a skill calculater and it is is possible
force speed, force armor, force run 3, stasis, regain, 1500 heals, Improved CoB, TK innate armor, and power boost. i can do more damage faster with TKM, and without the FC of a saber.

exactly!
Yeah, I think this is/was the most viable/fun hybrid out there.

what do they have to loose? all they have to do is finish out the template...
QFE!!!
If you are just starting out as a Jedi, you can't go wrong playing a hybrid. You get Jedi defenses with Elite offense. Once you get to be a full template hybrid, if you enjoy it, great! Have a blast! If you're really itching to go full template, well, your half way there.
I went MRifleman, 4440Def, 3000Enh 3000Hlr as I ground out Jedi, and I loved it. I'm close to being a full template Jedi now, and I really think I never should have walked away from the Rifle Hybrid. It was great for offering hardend support fire to a MSwordsman or MSab Jedi. Great defenses, good healing, and Force Speed made up for the lack of a supporting ranged profession. When a melee player got toe-to-toe with me though, I was toast. It's not a God template.
Every day I play my Jedi, I'm so tempted to go hybrid again... my flashlight just doesn't feel right. I may go back to the Rifle template from above, or try it with Carbs... Another one that really has my interest is MPike, MDef, 4000hlr. With just over 400 defense w/o aura,COB if you need to conserve force, Intimidate, and 1500 point heals, this template may not deal much more damage than Jedi, but it could tank anything.
also CoB/Duelist stance stacks with Aura.
just dont tell everyone so it wont get nerfed.
