If you are CL80 now, you will be able to respec into a CL80 toon, and then get a headstart on the race to CL90 compared to somebody starting the game at CL1.

This was posted on the Smug board a few days ago. And if this does become reality it would be fantasic.
I know people are sceptical when it comes the the promises of SOE... and we all right to be. But there are a couple of differences now:
1) As stated in this Gamespot artical (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/starwarsgalaxiesaned/news.html?sid=6137122&page=1) " terms of the development team's list of goals for the game, MacIntyre explained, '[LucasArts is] putting Star Wars at the top of the hierarchy.'" They want... or need rather for this game to compete against WoW, D&L, DDO and STO, so they are going to do everythign in their power to have SWG do so.
2) One of the reasons why new stuff was never implimented was because they could never balance the 35 professions. Nothing could be added to one combat prof without somethign being added to the other combat profs to balance it... and then you would run into the problem of a hybrid prof having both of the new additions. Balance was near to impossible to achieve.
What we are testing now is the first phase of of the NGE that will lay the foundation for a series of phases of NGE's. Things seem a little basic now... but they will be added to over the comming months. Its probably the reason why 10 extra lvls have been added to our professions... it will keep us occupied while they finish developing the content that we will enter when we finish our template. Perhaps that is were we will see diversity enter out templates.
