I don't know that you are on firm ground to suggest that I am "wrong" about the potential value of resource competition inthe pvp game.
I do respect that you may disagree, but there is a strong arguement to be made the resource competiton was part of the original design of SWG, even if it has been severly marginalized over time.
Fair enough. But my ground to say that you are wrong comes from the Star Wars universe.
While rationization of resources and supply lines are important in a modern ground based war, those concepts just don't apply in starwars.
Think about it. The Alliance gathered together enough resources on their own under the empire's nose to not only fund an entire army and space navy, but also to build an entire fleet of capitol scale warships that were nearlycomprable to star destroyers (talking about the monCal cruisers), not to mention the shipyards to build them.
As for supply lines themselves, a direct supply line becomes meaningless when you are dealing with trans atmospheric supply ships that can move at nearly the speed of light (in the mellenium falcon's case, 1.5 times the speed of light before engaging hyperdrive).
So yah, a supply system would be great in the GCW is we were dealing with earth's resources and technology, but that kind of system is meaningless in a starwars game, and will only drag the GCW even further from Star Wars.
Even in an advanced civilization, there are always things that will be rare.
Maybe gold is common in the Star Wars universe, but things like force crystals are certainly rare.
Maybe certain forms of gold are rare and make better gun electronics components.
I think this was the idea for SWG in the beginning. ADK's ruined this.
Lastly, SWG definitely does not follow Star Wars cannon very accurately.
Well, soldiers don't eat force crystals, but the BEST gear should require the most rare of elements. Even with billions of systems, there will always be something thats rare and having access to those special rare things will still provide an advantage.
Your honestly confusing the idea of hyper-inflation with resource scarcity. It doesn't matter if there is an infinite supply of credits, if the supply of cool things to buy with those credits is limited and the cool things that you buy with those credits eventually need to be replaced, there will be some equilibrium in place. Hyper-inflation is a balancing mechanism. It should not be feared. The problem with ADK's is that once you've obtained uber gear, you are mostly done. There should be a maintainance requirement to being uber.
