Thread: MPowers template question

I've been seriously thinking of something very similar to this template by going either:
Master Powers
4404 Enhancer
4010 Healer
0400 Lightsaber
or
Master Powers
Master Enhancer
4040 Healer
With the first I could add CA's to get greater Accuracy and Speed with the saber in line with MLS, and it gives me the Armour Break that seems to work so well, it would also allow me to add the Force shock making the application of the powers states a little easier possibly.
With the second I get the wonderful Stasis and a whole heap more Force and Force Regen, also get a better Shock and the Sap which should be good against Doc/CM. It also makes better use of my Skill points.
I suppose that defender is useful if you want to be able to tank a little, personally I think both templates above should be good for the hit and run style attack, God knows if they'll work or not, but powers just look so good and with the second template it gets around the whole pearl drop issue
(eBay'd Flawless pearls anyone ?)
I don't suppose I'll stand a chance in a toe to toe battle with a good BH but then I don't consider having to beat them as the only way to win, costing them even more money in the continuous search for me will be all part of the fun. And with current PvP groups having large numbers of MDef/MLS/Healer4040 or Healer3000/Enh0002 the battle seems a little boring.
Looking at the Enhancer the 0004 instead of the 0002 is somthing I'm a little confused about, the meditate's only really useful for recovery while your safe, and what is the force shield actually defending against as most powers temps are going to be fighting against sabers rather than force attacks. Could you swap those points up and actually pick up a bit more in Defender and grab abit of innate armour, how would a Defender 4440/MPowers template stack against a Def/LS template I wonder.

I know for a solid fact that I want atleast MPowers, 4000 Healer, and 0040 Defender. What I am hung up on is what to get in Enhancer and Lightsaber. I know that improved speed and channel are important, and so that is howI settled on the 4004 Enhancer part. I figure that meditate and FR2 couldn't hurt since I have already invested in those branches. Having a branch in LS would be nice to add to my damage output since the attacks are on different timers, but I am considering investing in improved force armor instead of Lightsaber skills for the extra defense. So my other main option is this:
Master Powers
4000 Healer
0040 Defender
4404 Enhancer
...
That leaves me 13 skillpoints to spare. It would probably be pointless to invest in LS skills with so few SP, so I was wondering what might be a good choice to use those last 13 points for if I decide to go the FA2 route over LS skills.
All in all, I am leaning towards the first template, but I would like to get some input on whether FA2 is worth getting over some extra DPS from a branch in LS. If anyone has played this template I'd appreciate your take on how it stacks up in PvP or PvE.

the first seems liek a nice enjoyable temp, i prefer my evil darkside MLS/MP/enh 2xx3/nov healer, but thats just me... A temp u enjoy is the best temp for u

You will want Force Suppression if you are going to kite something (which you will as MPowers). Force Speed will also help, as will Force Run and Force Wave for the snare. It's a shame you need supplemental skills in Enhancer to make Powers even viable, but that's just the way it is.
You wouldn't be able to use lightning or any other move that requires a warm-up on any reasonable powerful mob without being able to root/snare them.
Personally, I never went higher than 3xx2 in Enhancer simply because FR2 has a big damage reduction penalty (meaning you will have to switch it on and off whilst kiting - normal run will be too slow to outrun most mobs). Depending on how much you like to spam specials you will have to decide whether Channel (xxx2) is enough over Meditate (xxx4). I can say from personal experience that don't expect to solo a lot of CL80+ mobs in a row without having to sit and channel.

Well, Im a Master Powers/Master Enhancer/ 4040 Healer. The two reasons why you should go double mastery is 1. Powers is still very force intensive and the extra force from having a double mastery is needed. 2. Defender is not needed with a powers template. Your not going to tank anything, you will be using a root and attacking from a distance. When killing Bols in a group i was only getting hit for about 100 more damage then a 0040 defender, so its not a big difference. Hope this helps a little.

Can I ask a Powers question in this thread since you people seem to know the profession well and I don't: I know that when FR2 and FR3 (or whatever they are called now) are activated, all LS damage is severely reduced - however, does this also apply to Lightning, Choke, Mindblast and Force Throw damage?

yep still reduces the dmg, but you can still state people up on fr2 or fr3

Yes.
FR2 drops my lightning output (as MPowers) down from 1000+ to 600+. Choke is even more affected, going from ~650 a tick to ~330. Obviously it varies depending on mob, but its a big drop.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually choose to use the slower Force Runs even after you have gone higher up the trees, but that's another argument (and something which also badly affects Powers as well - KD/intimidate at the lower levels are very effective in PvE, but at MPowers KD and Intimidate are AE, and that area is HUGE).
If you want to be kiting mobs, which - lets face it, if you've got no LS skills you are going to need to do - then you don't want to be in a position where you either have no Force Run at all, or FR2/FR3 which you have to cancel to attack, and reapply afterwards to get away...

after reading a few of the posts i stopped so someone may have already said this, but IF i remember correctly armor break does still effect choke and lighting damage, assuming im not mistaken would prob be a good idea to stick with the 0400 saber

It does.
All the more reason Powers should have an AB power (e.g. Weaken?), since its supposed to be a viable alternative to LS.
