this is just silly. if we started with an FS slot, or it was very easily attainable, then RIGHT NOW the biggest PAs that were around at launch would have raiding parties of 20 Jedi Masters, probably all equipped with AT-ST pets.

how do you deal with that? you can't. it would probably ruin PvP on that server. and it STILL might happen, at some point down the road.

i want to try out being a jedi as much as anyone else, but what you are asking for would COMPLETELY ruin the immersion in the game, and would make being a jedi not even special anymore.

I've research this game since I couldn't get into beta. I read all the FAQs and I believe its fair about the permadeath on the Jedi but, advertising that you can BE a jedi is wrong. I knew from the start it had to be earned; I like it that it has to be. Not everybody is smart enough to go and research about a game and usually most of the money that SOE makes is from imcompentant idiots. I usually solo unless i'm with my brother or friends that I've made online because they know what they're doing. Too many people just like getting you killed. The timing to be a Jedi is excellent, Luke Skywalker isn't a Jedi Knight yet. He's still training to be one and Han and Leia aren't together yet, so the timing in this game is perfect. The people that want to be jedi will be the first ones to get it, like me. Once I get my FS slot, thats all i'm going to be playing.

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. One thing I'd like to expand upon/clarify. There has been some comments in this thread that ifeveryone began with a FS slot, you would havefar too many Jedi and everyone would be wandering around killing each other with their superfantastic Jedi powers. While that's a possibility, I find it doubtful, and here's why:

First, being FS is a far cry from being a Jedi. There is nothing wrong with the path to actually becoming a Jedi being very arduous and lengthy, but why not have the path be a bit more clear and certain?

Second, being a Jedi-in-Training is a far cry from being a Master. As powerful as Jedi are, the vast majority of the Jedi that fans/players have been exposed to are highly talented Jedi that have typically already obtained a Master or near Master level. Luke is the primary example of seeing a Jedi in training, and in the first two movies (and honestly most if not all of the third), he survives and succeeds based less on the Force and more due to his allies, Vader's soft spot, and luck. He's not that powerful.

Consider this in game terms. If you have a low-level Jedi in training, they will have some power, but it may have taken them as long to reach that level as it takes someone else to reach Master Bounty Hunter or whatever. Who would win between them? My money would be on the Bounty Hunter by a wide margin.

Third, the idea that everyone would just run around slicing each other up is rather unrealistic to me. Why? Because that would boil down to 1 of 2 scenarios. Either 1) I'm an idiot that pretends SWG is Quake and I just pop in, fight till I'm killed 3 times, then recreate my FS character. Only problem with that is that I'd be so weak that I'd die before I could do any real harm to anyone. Oh well. OR 2) I'm an idiot who has spent 6 months building up my FS character into a moderately powerful Jedi in training. Know what? I've decided to flush that down the toilet by going on a killing spree. Yay me.

If someone knows of another scenario that would lead to there being swarms of Jedi openly running around being Jedi-y, let me know, as I'd like to respond.

Fourth, being a Jedi is very dangerous. Jedi players will be hunted more, and having some mobs go aggro if the Force is visibly used around them would be one way to even further up the ante and limit vulgar displays of power in public. But I really don't think even that would be necessary.

Fifth, some have said that no one would play anything but Jedi. I disagree with that as well. Sure, there would be tons of people trying Jedi characters, many or most of which would stick around. But I believe that having a Jedi would actually encourage more diversity in non-Jedi characters. As it stands, themajority of people pick classes that can fight. One big (though far from the only, of course) reason for this is that many people are hunting for the elusive FS slot and want a character that won't die easily when they go exploring for it.

Nothing wrong with exploring, but I have little doubt that many people aren't getting full enjoyment from their character because they've either picked a profession based upon wanting a FS slot Second, instead of just focusing on developing their character and roleplaying, many are so obsessed with getting their FS slot that they're missing out on much of that.

Anyway, I hope this helps to clarify my points or at least provides more material for debate. Again, I want to reiterate that I love my non-FS character, I love the game, and I love the Devs and players that make it so great. While we cannot expect change if we do not discuss and question, I hope we always do so with kindness and respect. Thanks for listening.
