lava saber ??? /shakes head in unbelief. lava saber ? exactly what book/movie did that come from???

legoland star wars is a faster paced funner game then this now, and, more true to star wars, no lava sabers there.

Now tell me, did you see a single thread without Dev bashing? Without cries to be made more powerful? Without melodramatic */putsonflameproofsuit* whining?

That's because as subscribers paying for a service people feel entitled to having that service be functional. Though that is a loose term, a more definite term might be that the developers should make every effort to ensure that all aspects of their program are working before releasing them to the public, or failing that the public be informed of which changes (aside from easily exploitative bugs) are being made and planned so that we can plan our gameplay to fit with whatever style happens to be implemented. In essence, people wouldn't whine so much if the developers were doing what they ought to be doing, but realistically at this point it's the marketing which is driving the game (unfortunate but true) so we are now relying not on fans of the game, but people who are interested in the money the game generates, and the interest in the forthcoming release of other Lucas merchandise. Once money becomes a factor in the controlling group of a community the rest of the community has little chance of ever gaining any real control again. But some people will whine about anything.

Now, let's look at the negative things just recentlythat we think about the game's development.

-The game is still riddled wth bugs, which should have been sorted long ago.

-New bugs have a tendancy to spring up after every single patch.

-A lack of communication is sometimes present.

But let's look on the bright side of things in the last month or so:

-We have another expansion around the corner, which promises to be a great addition to the SWG universe.

Yes....promised....just like all that content was promised for crafters......mmm...feel the warm glow of crafter content? No you don't sadly. They are trying to compete with other MMo's, which is a bit tough when your MMo is nothing like anyone elses. Solution? Make your MMo like everyone elses to cut into their market share. What's the point of expanding withoutaclear vision?

-The AI has been upgraded tremendously, and (admittedly with some regen bugs ) is now a challenge to even veteran players.

The game isharder, but the rewards are the same. This seems completely contradictory to any game philosophy I have ever had the pleasure of discussing. Once again we see a lack of vision. Luke almost paid the price for his lack of vision. I believe LA/SoE will as well.

-They still manage to fixa lot of the bugs in a short period of time.

They implement fixes to 2 kinds of bugs. 1) Bugs that are easy to fix - take little man power or testing. 2) Bugs that give any player any advantage not intended. All others fall to the bottom of a very skewed priority list. Apart from that their "testing" of the fixes leaves much to be desired. If they fixed 90% of the bugs I wouldn't even be commenting here, but as it stands they're at about 30-50%, and with the release of a new expansion they're creating an entire new mess. Add to that the fact that they've delegated their resources in a very haphazard way and you have a lack of communication between development teams and thus the final product has the feeling of being "jimmy'd" together. This isn't how you build a huge program. This game should feel cohesive, with its systems working together and balancing each other, not this totally arbitrary clvl system that was forced out from the frameworks.

We all moan to the devs about things...but I just don't see how this is conducive to the forum's wellbeing.

We need to stop complaining so much! If you want to complain about something, find a thread that already complains about the thing you want to and post there. or better still, you'd be best off not to complain at all, chances are it won't do any good anyway. The Devs are more than aware of what we hate and moaning more won't do anything to pummel the fact further into their heads.

But how did the devs become aware of what people are hating? That's right, because people post/e-mail/phone-in and complain. If anything I believe more people should speak up about what's right, what's wrong, and what's new and different about the game. Encouraging people to be silent only diminishes the sense of community people feel. As that diminishes so too will the interest in this game. The graphics are nice, but really we play for the sense of connection, or of conquering (can't think of a better word atm) of others. Silence won't fix anything. It would be nice if people were a bit more constructive in their criticisms, and more technical in their ideas, but hey, we pay our 15$, we can do as we please (so long as it doesn't violate the EULA)

And as for the constant clamouring for power we have, I think some deluded people should stop kidding themselves. Anybody who said they became a jedi to "roleplay" is kidding themselves. The only reason we all became jedi is that we wanted to be stronger. Why else would we have grinded out tons of exp? We, in a nutshell, basically wanted to "PWN N00BZ" and be "UBER L33T" etc...

Mind if I be the exception to the rule? I got a Jedi. I enjoy crafting more. The glowy stick is cool kinda, but the amount of experience needed makes experimenting rather complicated, and I like to experiment with different kinds of play-styles. I suppose I don't "role-play" except as myself in a star wars environment, but I couldn't care less about who gets who's life bar down first. It's fairly trivial if you ask me, which is why all the leet-speak doesn't bother me. It's petty, but that doesn't mean it should be stopped. Not encouraged, but aside from obviously harrowing remarks I see nothing wrong with slang and bragging. It's part of growing up. Some people played as a jedi for more power, you're right. These should be the Evil jedi, but they can be light if they want.....so it's all pretty pointless if they don't make a system to have a little more meaning behind the actions. Jedi may as well just be another character the way this game is going.

But let's look at the reality of things now. If we were that strong, it would be impossible for any other profession tocompete, there aretoo many jedi floating around the place. This has been said so many times before but it doesn't seem to sink in with people. So getting stronger again is hardly an option. Even if we did have our own battles free from the GCW, what about PvE? With so much of the game's best loot dropping from the highest level NPCs you can find, we would hoarde all the loot, and kill things FAR too easilly if we were given apower hike. If the mobs were boosted in power too, what would happen to the non-jedis? Let them rot attacking FS npcs for awful crystals? Let them loot corpses of low end mobs expecting, if they're lucky, a 200 dps weapon because they haven't a fighting chance against bosses? This is not viable to me.

I couldn't agree with you more. The problem with an unbalanced, combat-based game in which one profession is obviously superior and the mainstay of all professions is the collection of loot is that all players will gravitate towards one "cookie-cutter" template, because it is in every way superior to other templates. So they make it harder to get good with "tuning" of pearls and crystals, which generates complaints of "that's not fair"

So what do you do? Easy, move the game back to where it came from. There should be no weapons looted that come anywhere near what a master crafter can make. Players should control the quality of the goods, not random loot drops. That's why I quit Diablo 2. Couldn't stand doing the exact same thing as 50k other players and getting the "short" end of the stick. Loot drops should be restricted to components and decorations. When you have professions designed to make protection and attacking weapons what possible reason could there be to undercut them bymaking available to only combat professions items which are superior to anything the already existent crafter player base can accomplish? The only possible explanation is of course phasing out the crafting professions entirely. I know the loot is shiny, but don't been fooled. It's hollow. Let the players control the goods, not random loot drops. Let the looters control the components which make the best of the best possible. Make interaction necessary, and stop the random-looting madness. So if Jedi hoarde the loot it doesn't have a hugely negative impact on the quality of goods available to the player base at large.

And for this reason, we constantly moan at our current Devs for screwin' up what was the best damn3d game on the planet. And to tell the truth, at the time it was. But what is the biggest complaint about Galaxies? That there are too many jedi. Let's not forget that the original Devs devised a system that theoretically allows every character in game to become a jedi. The new Devs took over just at the point where jedi were vastly increasing in numbers. Their enhancements to BH in this respect are entirely justified because it was the only fair conceivable way to hinder the Jedi. Besides...when the FRS comes along again there WILL be something to aspire to. There WILL be that feeling you got when you saw jedi spinning lairs in half a minute, because thereWILL be people who are, basically, "Ub3r". They will have the power to trash you one on one and so long as the new FRS is fair, we will all get a shot at it. There will be a NEW endgame for us. A far more meaningful one than we had before. f this I am confident.

You confidence may be misplaced. You're hoping that a minor adjustment to a broken system that was ill-concieved will somehow return the game to what it could have been (and almost was). Having 2 opposing professions was an error in judgement that is the source of most of the "whining" that this thread is in response to. The timeline of this game needs to be shifted and made somewhat coherent to the Star Wars universe that already existed. As it is there are far too many logical loop-holes that people need to jump through in order to understand what this game is about. Bounty Hunting should be independent of Jedi, but not exclusive. Jedi should be strong, but not able to compete in the same way as another profession. Jedi always have their own agenda, whereas in this game they are seen as just soldiers within either military - this was never their purpose. Hybrid professions, both intended and invented have taken a massive hit due to an inorganic ill-thought out system that was pushed forward due to marketing and pressure from fans who want a more homogenized gaming environment....basically they are trying to flatten out the curves and ridges in this game, and they're destroying it bit-by-bit in the process. The fundamental problems that are inherent in this game due to the lack of vision in inception of many of these patches has left us in the state we are in. Unless there becomes a cleaner pipe-line for communication between those that create this world and those that live in it there is little hope it will get better.

As I close, I'd just like to point out that I am one of the poorest Jedi on my server. I have felt badly the broken pearl drops (my saber has 517 max damage, ffs , and more than once have been deterred from playing my jedi from the fear of being on the BH terminals. But I live with it. Because deep down, I actually like this game. And I'm sure that under all that resent for the Devs, you do do. So let's cut some slack for the people who are trying to make our game a more balanced and fun experience for everyone.

I think 15 a month is plenty of slack. Until the devs take back control of this project, they should not rest well.
