I was thinking along the same lines....that the pickets were already hitting me for their min damage. Lets say the pickets are 170 Max, 70 min, shouldn't they have been hitting me for like 72 asDef 4444 and 70 as MDF. I can understand the extra 50 melee def not making a difference with aura running, but the Inate jedi armor should have done something.
Bac.....any way you can have this looked into by the devs or TH so we can get some clarification.

The +16 innate armor at master alone should have lowered the damage taken, +54 45%~ vs +70 52%~.

It is working as intended. You must have had food at 4444 and then ran out at Mdef. I tested it at 4444 and mdef and I can tell you that I get less damage at Mdef.

Not sure about this, but does the fly text signify the end result on your Health or the damage done by the creature before armor? Because as MDef, I get hit alot more times than I should if I was taking 70-100 damage each hit...
If the flytext is the damage before armor, your innate won't reflect that number.

I'm positive I didn't have any good, and I can say that with 100% certainty because I don't use food when I'm grinding, it's a waste in my opinion to use expensive food for grinding. I was Def 4444 with an insp buff, aura, and infusion running, that's it and I was getting hit for the same amount at 4444 and MDF. I even checked the combat log to verify what the last few lairs were doing to me.............and yes, they were all the same CL creatures.

Only thingI can think of is your mdef status didnt kick in immediately or you were bugged, try it today on same type of creatures because mine works like a charm. Sometime if you are lagged out a macro would stop working . For example the Aura macro Stops working when I get a little lag, so I always keep checking the icon.

Well I think the only way to prove this is going to be a test
We would need a MDEF and a 4444 DEF
They either both need melee defense FS skills or both need to not have it
No food, no buffs, no SEAs, basically need to run in naked with no buffs or enhancements at all
1. Damage taken without aura on
2. Damage taken with aura on
Do any guilds or any people know someone who would be willing to help test it?

good idea, any 4444 defenders on corbantis wanna test this before you hit master?
