Thread: New LS concept!!! DEVS PLZ READ
Jedi should not have to rely on other professions to make a lightsaber. Although I agree that the pearls/crystals shouldnt make so much of a difference in the saber.
problem with crafters practically making sabers for jedi is that then everyone has the same stats on their sabers.....and none of it cost that much soooo a newly unlocked jedi could have a saber just as good as a full temp
my 2 cents

It might be as good but it wont he wont be and with the combat level he would have a reduced damage, I dont really think it would hurt cause of the face that it would be less effective in a new paddies hands
Well first, with normal professions, there isn't that much interdependancy as is. You may only need one or two items from another crafting profession for your own profession to use. Then on top of that, for crafting professions, CU has made most crafted items totally obsolete. For example, WS don't need biological components anymore (I believe they needed them for nades or a commando weapon at one time if I'm not mistaken). Right now I know that spraysticks need a master artisan component, but noone uses or needs a spraystick when they have a CL54 ALR they can use since they'd more than likely have CL54 when going rifleman. Even if they don't then they won't be novice rifelman long enough to even wear out a spraystick to where they would need anohter one, so the market for stuff that falls into this category would die off quick unless they devs made it where you'd need to have this stuff for a longer period of time or something.
Just about every profession is like this though. Cu has made the game so easy, that you only need certain thing for all but a couple of hours at the least until you are able to get the highest level stuff.
As for jedi building their own sabers, yes this is true...Not even the padawan's master could help them build a saber, so why should an artisan or DE. Jedi crafted their own saber, period. I don't think they should get their parts from non-jedi.
I do think the crafting process for sabers needs to be improved though. if not so it's unique or different for everyone, at least to stop having sabers so dependant on crystals and pearls.......I seem to recall that jedi often crafted many sabers as they learned more of the force and the sabers got stronger and better Even at master level. This may have fit with pre-cu, but we have caps now, so this will never work. I think the caps should be removed on all weapons though. The caps are making 90% of the weapons in the game obsolete. As I said, why buy anything other than a top of the line CL54 weapon that doesn't need a profession certification (like the FWG5 feather or the ALR). They are capping the weapons and that makes them useless.
For jedi, the only thing stopping a padawan with nothing but novice boxes trained is the quality of their crystals and pearls. If you got some with -9 FC, you can use a 4th gen saber because it's force cost will be lower than a training saber. I get 15 FC with my training sabers...at least that's what I got last night crafting one with the best resources on the server.....since you can't put any power crystals in to lower the FC, as long as you have the appropriate CL, nothings forcing jedi to use anything but a 4th gen saber.
Pre-cu, grinding was a lot slower (couldn't group for much xp) and you did have to spend hours to days stuck with a weak or lower level weapon. Cu has changed that to where you can be a novice marksman and walk around with a weapon that only a double master should have.
I did make a few post about changing the crafting of sabers a while ago though. BAscially it involved chaning the refined crystal packs so they can be experiemented on and possibly some other components to use in the crafting process. Of course having the need for parts from other professions isn't a bad option....as long as the need is a continuous one and not one the help you get over the hump. For example, a saber should require the replacement of a focusing lens, an emitter and maybe even refined crystal packs every so often, even if it is ADK'd.That would keep those components useful after becoming full template. The Hilt shouldn't decay, but the components inside should.
DE makes a lens, 6 metal, 4 copper, 12 fiberplast. Crate of ten= 5mil
Artisan makes a hilt, 12 metal, 1 electronics module, 1 or 2 lens (double or single blade), 5 copper and 15 chemical. Crate of ten = 5mil
