Thread: SWG was the different MMPOG. Now, it'll be like all the others . . .
But I'm not stupid, either. I'm not the market SWG is after. They are after the kids. Since they have lost the adults like me, I guess that's the only thing left - the quick, final 6-month hit.
they will soon realize what they lost. If they had done things right they could have keeped the adult population and got the kids into the games as well. Talking to all the vets in game that r thinking about leaving if the NGE is not great i mean really great this game is finished. Those r the ones with 2+ accounts.
I have five friends who quit since 2003 who are coming back becouse of CU2.

I have, since this was announced, 40+ friend who say they will quit, and 13-14 that canceled. That beats 5 coming back I think.
Let them quit if they dont like star wars.

I mean, Star Wars fans always hated SWG becouse it made a mockery out of everything they knew. How many have quit in the past two years compared to your13-14 friends?

I wasn't excited by Everquest. Never wanted to be a wizard. Put WoW in that category, too.
Didn't really get hepped by beingmedieval in Asheron's Call. Put DOAC in that bag, too.
Anarchy Online is pretty good, but not enough people play it.
Got tired of looking at the blackness of Eve Online.
Earth and Beyond was too basic.
But Star Wars Galaxies was different. The wealth of races and professions and the economic system was so innovative! You could be something truly different in SWG! Something truly your own! Something more than a console-shooting, FPS idiot.
In short, SWG was the "Thinking Man's" MMPOG. Now, it will be just another game for 12-14 year old button mashers.
It's not for an old geezer of 49, like me.
Star Wars Galaxies coulda' been the greatest MMPOG ever. Instead, it will go down in history as the biggest failure in MMPOG history.
Five accounts cancelled here.
Good Night SWG, and Good Luck.
i feel ya, i miss how hard it was back then. where you needed skill more then just button mashing and clicking 2 colorful buttons.

I don't believe you. You have a record of dishonesty. During the CU you were a stooge for all the changes; now you tell us you disliked them.

My point was that seem to be a lot of people quiting to me.
The people who leave now are probably people who liked the system, and they give room for hopefuls who believe it would be better and their returning friends.
The game on test center right now is far more what I envisioned the game to be like when I first started to play the game. After just 2 months my fun started to drop and it was about when I started to use doctorsbuff. Beyond that I started to see what the game was more about, and saw how no more than four professions was left in the game, two of which had nothing to do with Star Wars (TKM/Swordmen) and one of which used something that did not belong in star wars (Doctor = Buffs). I saw a game where nobody use Stormtrooper armor, where nobody used blasters except for maybe Riflemen. A game that horribly lacked content and all there was was sologrinding robbed the rest of the game out of it's fun.
My last real-life friend left the game before the CU even came.
All of my real-life friends left the game becouse it never captured them, offering what they wanted to do.
Beyond the ability to playing a Twi-Lek or Wookiee and visiting a vectorized Mos Eisley, there was nothing to do to give you a star wars experience. From day one you go out to kill whatever gives the most experience, and you stay that way all the way up to Jedi Knight. Not until Rage of the Wookiees came along this game had anything to offer.
Having played the first hours on Test Center I can only say that it's how the game should have been released at launch. A "wham" introduction, with a series of star wars quests that kept you thrilled all the way up to master. They have said the endgame is the GCW now, which means alot more focus on Stormtroopers and rebels, and that's what I want out of pvp. Stormtroopers and rebels.
You're right even though I don't know if I'll continue playing or not. It really depends on how my gut feels after I've played the new game for a week or so.

lol i want to know this too? Does he realize that SWG was already seen as one of the biggest failures in MMORPG history simply because it has been in beta for 2 years and was steadily going downhill. The unability to switch proffessions now sucks but this new system will fix many problems (mainly the template crap). This can only help the game, cant hurt it cause it was already on the road to failure.
Well, MsNil, my friend, I have an update: After reading some early reports from Test Center, I'm gonna stick around another month to see what the new game is like.
Against my gut feeling, I'm gonna at least give the new SWG a chance. If I don't at least try it, I would never really know.
But if it's just like SWG Battlefront II online, well, that's not what I want in a MMPOG. Not even a SWG MMPOG. I'll be gone.
If I wanted to play SWG Battlefront II online, I can buy Battlefront IIand play it online for free.

I spent 2 hours this morning in the first area and I am happy so far. The loot system is better, combat is faster and I am constantly provided with new things to do.

The combat system feels "simpler", I cannot deny that, although it also offers some more freedom compared to before. The equipment seem to add more to the character now, and I pick equipment at will, not "enforced" to my set of skills.
This thing appears huge. Just the added quests will be enough to occupy me for months.
But I have to see what happens beyond level 80, and how the Endgame in the GCW works.
