I would rather have my nice pearls convert right then items that I would never use like a robe.

Problem is the items people are talking about are given to you when you reach certain CL's during your grind (they are not quest rewards per se). ie, when you hit cl 78 you get the meditate medallion or something like that. What does it do, not sure but obviously if you get it when you get to cl 78 obviously it might be something worth HAVING.
