Thought of a good name for MLS, MD, Heal 3000, and Enhacment 0002

How about the... "The Windu Warrior Template" ?

I like this name for this type of template since these powers remind me a lot of Mace Windu's fighting style...

Butas far as writing a guide for it myself... Well that's something I could do I guess but don't really have the time for it... However since this is a very popular template I thought I would throw the name out there incause anyone else wanted to use it...

Just a thought...

Once again thanks for starting this thread I have a feeling this is going to be a very useful one

Well I think that whoever takes the time to write a good template guide deserves the perk to name it officially. People can post alternate names suggested by others, like my template has often been referred to as "The Emperor". People like to name templates after movie characters.

But in the end, if you write it, you get to name it.

THE PURPOSE

Jedi are very proud of their templates...

Every time someone asks for template advice, you see a bunch of Jedi flocking in and posting their own template in there, adding their two cents, whether or not it helps the original poster. The bottom line is at least 50% of the Jedi forum posts discuss templates one way or another, and we see a lot of repeats over and over. I figured it was time we had one great compiled template and profession resource for all Jedi and wannabe's who need to either pick a template, modify the one they have, or just learn about their own profession or template.

In this post you will first find some guides to the individual Jedi professions, hopefully someday soon we will have guides to all 5 of them. Thanks toMsNil, JediMasterKai and jimcabtv we already have a few. These guides are meant to analyze one of the 5 jedi sub-professions from all angles, without really bothering too much on the other skills that can go in them. How to use them in template variants would be helpful, of course. I will maintain the links in this post and hopefully Baciacca can sticky this thread. I'll try to have no more than1-2guides per profession. I would rather have people post in the individual guide threads and add info so the original poster can keep them updated. If a thread becomes too old and the data is obsolete and the original poster won't update it, I will either remove it or see if someone wants to copy the original content and start a new thread with updates.

Other people, like me, will actually write afull template guide about one specific template to help others decide whether or not this template is for them. There could be quite a few such guides and I hope people will follow my lead and write in detail about their own template. I would certainly invite key Jedi forum figures like Baciacca, MsNil and SonGouki to do the same an inform us on why they play the template they picked, and what are the good and bad sides, along with tactics and such.

Baciacca, whatI am hoping is that you will sticky this thread to make sure it remains a central resource where everyone can come and read about templates. To everyone else, please post your comments if you feel this is a useful thread, and make sure to post suggestions on threads (including a link please) that should be added to this compilation. I cannot promise every suggested thread will be added here, but I promise to look them over and at least comment on why one did not make the cut, and how it could be improved.

And now, without further ado...

GUIDES TO THE 5 JEDI SUB-PROFESSIONS

Master Lightsaber Guides

  • None submitted or found so far. Please submit suggestions on existing/new threads dedicated to Master Lightsaber. Please refer to the other guides below to see how exhaustive a profession guide should be.

Master Defender Guides

Master Force Wielder (Powers) Guides

  • Force Wielder Skill Specification Guide, by jimcabtv (Pre-Publish 19 Guide). An update would be appreciated.

Master Enhancer Guides

  • None submitted or found so far. Please submit suggestions on existing/new threads dedicated to Master Enhancer. Please refer to the other guides above and below to see how exhaustive a profession guide should be.

Master Healer Guides

GUIDES TO SPECIFIC JEDI TEMPLATES

  • The "Take One for the Team" Template: Master Defender / Master Enhancer / Healer 4-0-4-0, by jimcabtv (Updated to Publish 19)

Other popular templates I feel deserve their own template guides if some Jedi who picked them feel up to the task of documenting them:

  • A variant on the old pre-CU FOTM: Master Lightsaber / Master Enhancer / Healer 4-0-4-0

  • The new and popular post-CU FOTM: Master Lightsaber / Master Defender / Healer 3-0-0-0 / Enhancer 0-0-0-2

  • The powers version of the new FOTM: MasterPowers / Master Defender / Healer 3-0-0-0 / Enhancer 0-0-0-2

  • Our beloved correspondent, Baciacca's template, once we finally find out what our Jedi Master chose for himself.

  • MsNil's Template: Master Healer / Master Enhancer / Lightsaber 4-0-0-4

  • Our dedicated previous correspondent, SonGouki's template... if I knew what it is.

  • And many more... feel free to suggest those you'd like to see added here...

HOW TO WRITE YOUR OWN TEMPLATE GUIDE

As for writing template guides, people who are proud of their template and know them well could document them properly fo all to read and enjoy. I would recommend including the following in a template guide:

  • The actual template and what skills/masteries it contains.

  • Be original, give it a name! This way people can refer to them by name in-game instead of by skill description, which breaks immersion. I already called dibs on the "Great Dark Force Wielder" template name.

  • Include whether or not this template leaves unused skill points and also include the force pool you'd get with it. Adding a summary of mods like armor and defenses could be interesting.

  • Make sure you talk about your experiences with this template, why you chose it, how it came to be.

  • Make sure you properly document the pros and cons of the complete template, not just of a single mastery. In my case, I went for "the good, the bad and the ugly".

  • Include tactics on how people can effectively use this template.

  • Talk about which FS skills you would recommend to grind if someone is going for your template. FS skills may be mostly useless but they do have some minor perks after all.

  • Provide advice on grinding it, such as which boxes should be completed first and the order.I did not include it in mine yet as I respec'd from a double mastery to my own template, so I never grinded it as it is now.

  • Include all the bugs that affect this template. You can also list them at the end of the post like I did.

  • Make sure you tell people "this template is for you if..." or "this template is not for you if..." by referring to the playstyle you need to enjoy this template. My template is awesome but many would hate it if they mostly play solo or want to be tanks or damage dealers with little thinking into tactics. Talk about the kind of player you need to enjoy the proposed template.

  • Make sure you use proper formatting to make the template easy to read and not painful. Sections, bold, bullets, and colors help, as long as you do not overdo it.

  • If a new publish or hotfix is announced or released, make sure you keep yourtemplate guide updated with the latest changes.

  • Try to avoid suggesting how the template could be changed by the devs. The purpose is to document templates as they work today, not as they should work. You can give your opinion here and there, but make the information valuable and based on facts, not wishful thinking.

Once you have written and posted your template or profession guide, make sure you come back to this thread and come post a link to it. I'll try to get it added as soon as possible. If you notice a great guide which would fit well here, make sure to post a link to it and I'll review it.

If you support this idea for a compilation of profession and template guides, make sure you say it here and Baciacca can act in the name of the community by creating a sticky. Honestly, this would be a great "go to" thread for people who need to decide instead of seeing 3537125362153 posts every day about "yet another template advice needed".

Hope this help. Enjoy!
