Thread: Smedley [SOE President] Speaks
Ive played in TC enough to have a CL 10 Force senstive
My opinion... well its pretty much EQ2 ...I play that now and then as well.
the only ppl Id say will hate the new system are PVPers...
the rest of combat feels fast .... active... not really FPS but you do actually have to particpate in the battle now.
This new system will end all AFK campers in loot areas... will end macro pvp kills.... will make the player be apart of combat
DO i like the new system.... well its still in a beta shell... I think on release next week... weither I like it or not Ill be here playing
Im here to Role play..and be with my friends..... the rest of the system .... well... its just back ground.... Im here to interact with my friends in a STar wars setting.
THis will not change that as most of my freiends and all of my guild area of the same mindset and non of us wereinto GCW or Loot whoreing AFK .... so ...np

If he were alive today, I'm sure his statement would have been revised to say:
There are onlyfour kinds of lies: Lies, Damnable Lies, Statistics, and anything that comes out of John Smedley's mouth. ![]()
When you cancel, the "feedback survey" link now leads you to a page that says "thank you for taking our survey".
I was planning to put "NGE" as my reason for pressing cancel 4 times yesterday.
Very nicely written. Anyone else posted any comments to the editor?

To who it may concern,
I just read your top story that interviewed John Smedley for the Starwars Galaxies Overaul. Usually I find it hard to get upset over a game but after reading this interview I seriously had to give my opinion on what was said.
To give you an idea of where I'm coming from as a player, I've played this game since the 2nd day the game launched. I've comleted everything from the highend content such as the Death Watch Bunker to leveling a fully templated Jedi (during the time it took 4+ months). I've purchased every Expansion (even the most recent Obi expansion) and have found all content a welcome addition. I've been part of a guild that has seen players come and go but a coregroup I've known for over my two years have remained. They are a big part of the game and a big reason why I'm still playing, no doubt.
Now on to the problem I have with Smedley's overview of the current changes. Right now it seems Vets are being treated lower than a new player coming into the game when this change hits. With this new system all completed templates (almost everyone who currently plays this game) we convert to a near maxed out template. Problem:
1) we do not get to do ANY of the new quests as a Veteran player which means we also do not get any of the quest rewards
2) we do not get any Class rewards. These are rewards you automatically get when you attain certain Classlevels. Like a CL 10 player gets a Backpack or a CL 78 player gets a Meditation amulet.
According to the Dev team (which John Smedley I assume oversees), this is all by Design. They do not want Vets to be included in ANY of the new things the game has to offer. This is the top issue at the moment on the forums for all Vets yet the only response is "By Design".
Now add on top of that all Skill Enhancing Attachements (most cost Millions of credits), High End Weapons (that includes LightSabers that cost over 100 mill credits), the removal of Creature Handler/Melee professions, and basically removing Crafting professions when they removed all Decay from the Game. This is all happening to players who have supported this game even with major bugs throughout it's lifetime.
When the original CURB hit this game back in May 05, the game took a hit in players. I know because I lost the majority of my guild. Some of the people stayed (and are still here) but long time friends left. It was the buggs and inability to understand the direction which the game is going.
Now Jedi being turned to a beginner profession has it perks at retailbut if people would look closer it might be the reason why this whole game goes under. Currently the combat system is designed for Ranged fighters. This has been tested and as the Devs have stated "By Design". What sense does it make to pin all your hopes on making a popular profession selectable at startup then making them the weakest combat profession in the game........and yes Jedi is by far the weakest profession right now. By design the profession has no armor, no ability to catch a ranged player from 50 meters running the oppoiste direction, 3m combat range compared to a 60m combat range for Gun using players. Once players realize that the profession is horrible while no ability to change their profession, why would they stay with the game. Right now Jedi is more bugged on Test than they are on Live. That is saying something for the state of NGE.
I've kept an open mind throughout the whole process. It's not the combat change, it's not the nerfing of Jedi that bothers me. What does bother me is they seem to think Vets will just accept starting over and forget the past 2 years while at the same time making the most iconic profession in the starwars universe (Jedi) the biggest joke combat wise.
"Despite some of the rhetoric coming from the existing player base, we've not noticed any rise in people canceling their subscriptions. It's just a very small, very vocal minority."
I'm an adult, not prone to knee jerk reactions. For me to quit without seeing the finished product would be immature. I'm expecting changes from what we've seen on Test. If nothing changes, the "very vocal minority" will turn into a large number of canceled accounts. I know I will be canceling Nov 16th if no changes are made, he is a self deluted Politican if he thinks a large majoirty will not do the same. CH's, Melee, Crafters, Jedi I'd say are significant customers right there. Add in all the disgruntled players that loose all the highend items and can't stand seeing a New Player get items they can never recieve will put them in the cancel line as well.
Not what you will do with this but I felt it important that you know Smedley is more of a wishful thinking politican. Back when the CURB released and people started quitting he came on and BEGGED players to stay as they fix the game. Again, people quit when the CURB hit. Smedley knows this so when he states no one has quit since the news of the NGE means NOTHING.......he knows they will quit after this hits live.

I disagree. The only people who hate the new system are those who think, and those who had pride in the game they played. This is not a step forward, it's a step to the stone ages.
tested the nge with 2 characters, absolutly hate it....expesually the fact that the game is now a first person shooter ![]()

/agree
Problem is this is not just a Combat System issue. Yes, PvPers will hate this especially any Melee player (Jedi mostly). Crafters will hate this new system. CH's, well I'm sure they already quit lol. Vets, we are losing basically everything worth anything and even losing stuff that we should have being level 80 in the new system.
The Combat System is only part of the complaints, look deeper and you'll find a lot of people are unhappy.
