Thread: Why go jedi?

The original system was still the best- there is no defined path to jedi, but a hidden 'points' system. Basically, everything you do in the game gets 'points'. You visit a city- get a point. Kill a player- get a point. Grind a profession, get a point. And when you've accumulated enough hidden points to your unlock number, you get jedi.

The problem with this system were that little kids who were used to immediate gratification weren't too happy, and stopped playing after a month or two and that jedi were 'too rare and hard to get' according to the player base. So SOE caved and made the holocron system (which had always been in the game) much simpler by saying that only professions got you 'points'. Then once again, kids whined and said 'it takes too long and its boring and expensive' resulting in the lame village system we have today.

Every time you cater to the lowest common denominator, you are catering to the death of the game.

Why even bother anymore? I spent almost a year (im pre patch jedi) making a jedi toon, wokring hard and spending millions and thousands of game hours making what I hoped was a superior toon. I killed a thousand krayts just to get that one flawless pearl tune for my lightsaber (which I crafted a thousand of as well).

Jedi should be hard work, and rare- and the end result should be a superior PVP toon.

Our end result is that we are cannon fodder content for 12yr old griefers who have anger management issues. It wont take much now for me to send this game to the trash heap. I'm hoping the new FRS- if it ever comes- will restore sanity to the jedi template and PVP.

But I doubt it.

I am a Jedi, because I enjoy being weak, hated, ridiculed, griefed, nerfed, and ignored.

I think that about sums it up.

By using the village system, SOE created a defined path to making a jedi- and ultimately filled every server with them. The people who couldn't fight one, immediately cried like babies, and SOE caved by nerfing the jedi with every patch. The result is now there are jedi everywhere and the jealous and angry people want them gone.

Good job.

As much as I agree with you, this has been said over and over. And unfortunately, this is how SOE want's it. See it from the bright side, at least the purpose of the CU came thru, a more balanced SWG...

Or, eh, nah sorry, you are so right.

The main flaw in SOE's logic is that they fail to understand that most of the old jedi- the really dangerous ones- are superior gamers in most cases, and will figure out a way to win somehow. That's why they keep nerfing skills. SOE does a nerf, the serious gamer alters their template or makes some adjustments, and then goes back to kicking tail. The crybabies then whine about a skill, and SOE gets out the nerf bat again.

Bottom line is tha SOE needs to stop catering to the little kids, make a decent game, and understand that in any game there are winners and losers and the losers are rarely happy about it.

it is definately not the superior pvp toon any more there is no doubt. Why go jedi? I guess this is Star Wars and to alot of Star Wars fans, Star Wars = Jedi. As long as this game continues to be about the Star Wars universe and as long as there continues to be a path to take to become in tune with the force, people will continue to work to achieve that goal no matter how useless the profession becomes.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

A big problem is they made jedi to easy to get.

Everyone can get jedi now. When I got it onlythe best got jedi.

The CU, the changes made to getting jedi with the village and the fact grinding is never been easier just ruined it for the "real jedi" if you don't mind my saying.

Ive found that dedicated gamers tend to do better in combat. Many people fail to learn their template properly and then give it up for something easier, and as a result never get to be a good PVP'r.

The true quality PVP'rs stick with their template and learn to play it properly. Many jedi picked up a load of defender or enhancer in order to be FOTM, and I eat them alive (Im powers/LS) in PVP because they fail to realize its the player not the template.

The problem now however is that ALL the jedi tmeplates have been severely nerfed in comparison to non-jedi toons, thereby gimping most of the dedicated players.

And its the long time dedicated players that run the guilds, have established businesses etc- and are therefore the lifeblood of the game.
