When I entered the game I quickly realised that the HAM system was terribly executed. At once I started to wonder why I cant shoot at somethings legs using a rifle, or someone's head using a pistol. I then started to wonder why something did not fell over when it ran out of action, The first time I heard about dots that drained action or mind things started to sound extremely ridicilous. I learned that Wookiee's had a great penalty in melee due to their shorter mindbar. Then came the buffs that allowed a single human to defeat a whole lair of critters, earning 33k for themselves. Armor was extremely simple and almost all classic stuff such as the iconic DL44 and Stormtrooper armors where barely used at all becouse they sucked. I wondered why I as a Bounty Hunter where forced into using pistols, when I rather wanted to use 1h or unarmed.
I wondered why I jacked up on alot of booze and drugs just to wear my armor, and I wondered why I had to use drugs and booze to be able to use a vibroknuckler or rifle. And I kept on incapping myself with my own actions.
The CU improved this a bit, and removed the most gruesome parts of the system. Gave Wookiee's advantage of more health back to them, made people use stormtrooper armor again, and some of the more starwars iconic stuff came back. It worked a bit better this time around. While the first was not even a proper ground for a system, the CU at least showed what the system where supposed to be like. It was not without issues. The dabbling problem, cookiee cutter templates and redundant profession still remained in the game. We had a better ground for a system, but the professions did not work and where not balanced.
The NGE is more promising to be a fun system with more emphasis on the Star Wars universe. Finally there's Abilities, proper loot, a proper quest system, and roles are back in the game. People can no longer just steal a role by taking one line in a profession, and the "unlearn" system is gone. You are what you are, just like traditional RPG's.
Still I am a bit worried about diversity. Even in a class system like Dungeons & Dragons you can make very unique characters out of the same class.
So while just ignoring the bugs:
The pre-cu was not even a good start on a system
The CU tried to establish what the original tried to do, while making some sense
The NGE might lack diversity, but shows more promise to be a fun game at the end.
Star Wars for me is stormtrooper armor, space travel, space dogfights, blasters, rebels, lightsabers, the force, aliens like strong wookiees and alot of droids. If the system works against that, it's a bad system. If the system doesnt remove that, it's a better system.

Guys, cut MsNil some slack. I agree with her: This new system is revolutionary.
Never before have I found some an immersive, constant click system with such a wonderful chat system. I realized it the other day...the reason I never enjoyed the mindless clicking of Diablo was the lack of a chat system. And its star wars! I mean, c'mon...who cares if its a GAME first, gameplay is overrated anyways. I want to go to bed at night thinking that I got to click with Han Solo.
And more on this chat system...did you know I can pay 15 dollars a month to play a Diablo/FPS hybrid? And its quite justified, due to the chat window. The guild tab, the planet tab, the group tab...awww, it just makes me tear up thinking of the complexity of it all. I am assured that is why they dumbed down the game so much...they are planning to make the chat system even more complex, to give you the true "Star Wars" experience. I know someone stated earlier that Battlefront 2 is alot like this game, but FREE per month, but all you can use on that is lowtech Ventrilo or something stupid like that. It doesn't have the chat system where you can do emotes and such. So immersive!
So please, for all of us, stop taking jabs at ppl that like the overly simplistic design. Evidently, there is something keeping them here, and I am positive its the ability to chat with Boba Fett. Heck, if that doesn't justify 15 bucks a month, I don't know what does.
