Thread: Musings of a non-pwn-l33t-uber Jedi Initiate

Passing up my lengthy explanations from above, here is a list of what it will take for me to get to Jedi Knight and then Jedi Master:
Jedi Knight = 9,000,000 Jedi xp Would take me 435 hours (21.75 weeks)
Jedi Guardian = 3,200,000 Jedi xp Would take me 155 hours (7 ½ weeks)
Jedi Master = 9,000,000 Jedi xp Would take me 435 hours (21.75 weeks)
So, because I have a Real Life with certain responsibilities that I am not willing to give up for a game, my path to Jedi Master (w/out any interruptions of my SWG sessions and not dying
) will take me approximately 68.65 weeks to get Jedi Master.
That is 1 year 4 months and 4 ½ days from this moment for me to achieve Jedi Master if I play 20 hours a week (part time job mind you
).
I have no idea how some people are already Guardian 4444. That is just astonishing to me and I would be very interested in knowing how you did it.
To put things into perspective, I was a 3/4/4/4 BH the day I made my holo-grinding character in October. That was before the very nice xp increase in the invest missions. I personally thought it was hell doing the invest tree at that time. Boy was I wrong J.
Anyway, this was just a bit of info I wanted to share to those of you wanting to grind your way to Jedi. I hope you make it, and I hope you understand what is entailed to being a SWG Jedi. And I hope this is enlightening to some as to why SOE got rid of permadeath.
PAR
Par,
There is down time concerning the amount of credits and pearls you need to gain in order to grind Jedi XP.... also, if you decide to take a real life vacation, real life things that come up, etc. etc..... much longer to get high level.
I asked a similar question on another thread:
I'm probably doing something wrong, but I'm very lucky to get 100k Jedi xp a day (ie. 6 to7 hours of non-stop playing) asa Jedi Initiate.
First, I'm not finding really good xp by avoiding the best hunting grounds.
If you go past 3k of an outpost to a remote area ofthe map(and yes, even if you wait around) nothing is spawns. ZERO creature spawns on Bria.
Also, my saber is decayingquickly... as a result, I've started an alt to try to make millions of credits topurchase a couple of pearls.
Didall the high levelJedi use sliced lightsabers and AFK Jedi xp toget up there?
What's the secret to getting better Jedi XP other than slicing sabers and AFK macro'ing?
ANSWER:
"... all the jedi waiting on master now crafted thier way to it when there was xp for it ...."
----------
Basically, Jedi were able to AFK macro craft Jedi XP.
Now, legit players are looking at one year or more to get high level unless they give up their real life job, school, wife, girlfriend, family, friends, etc... then it'll be less than a year or so. (If you get killed too many times or don't have the creditsand pearls, it'll take longer.)

Actually you did get a few things wrong in your calculations.
First of all you didnt take into account that the Padawan box alone requires 1.5 mil XP and the Apprentice box alone takes 3.2 mil XP.
and on the other side of the coin your XP does increase a bit as you go up, for example you say you get about 325 XP for a good Kill and I can tell you that at 4132 initiate I get 430XP for a good kill, on top of getting 50XP for using force KD, and e couple hundred more for saber specials. I assume it goes up from there as well.
However, even though your "formula" doesnt take into account these variables, I do agree that it would take someone that plays 20 hours a week a VERY long time to see Jedi Master status. I stopped playing my Jedi entirely, because it is just too boring.
how to play Jedi: Wake up, get some coffee, find a doc and buffs, fly to remote location, kill everything you see for two hours, fly back to doc/rebuff...rinse and repeat ad nauseum.
I made it to Jedi with alot of hard work, got what I wanted, and played it for some time to get the experience of being a Jedi in SWG. Now I just play my main toon, and help others, and hang out with friends, and "interact" with others, because the only thing a Jedi "interacts" with is the MOB's and that cursed bar that tells me I have many more hours to go before I get another boring skill that has me excited for all of about 10 minutes.
But hey, Im not whining. I have enjoyed my time playing this game, and I will continue to play "part-time" as well.
I made the realization early on that it would most likely take a year or more to get my jedi where I wanted her.... but as others have stated... whats the rush
..... when Im tired of everything else the game has to offer, I'll just seclude her someplace and log on a few times a week to go kill stuff with her..... eventually I'll have a Master Jedi to play with... and I won't be burnt out.....
Dream
That being said, the Padawan tree doesn't seem quite as bad as you make it out to be.
Once I had hit the first couple of boxes (4/1/1/0 actually) I was able to earn a consistent 40k-50k of jedi xp per hour. At my current level (4/1/2/3), i've been able to earn a solid 50k-75k per hour, primarily thanks to the combo of knockdown + mindblast (which gives me a total of 1200+ jedi xp from a single kill when properly executed). When i'm seriously grinding, i've been able to solidly earn 75k jedi xp per hour (approx 150k per buff session).
In the interest of mutually beneficial discussions, I'll talk a little about my techniques:
I'm a Zabrak with mind and willpower maxed, with 1000 health and 900 action.
I equip myself with a high-quality suit of sliced advanced ubesee (actually i carry two sets just in case, plus a set of advanced composite in case i run in to any players). I stock myself with crates of food (brandy for the mind, travel biskits for the terrain bonus, the damage reduction food in case i get overwhelmed by a spawn). I grab a crate of PSGs which i can hot-key on in case i'm overwhelmed or attacked by a PC or NPC. I grab a couple cases of spice, both pixie and muon, just in case. And of course, i grab a full set of high-end buffs before each session.
I head to an elite planet - Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok. I tend to favor one of those four but I'll switch it up occasionally to avoid boredom of killing the same creature over and over again.
Group a pet (preferably a mount) or a droid for the 15% xp bonus.
I hop on my vehicle and head out to "a safe distance". Could be as low as 2000m, could be as much as 6000m, depending on the planet.
I drop my vehicle in an inconspicuous location and waypoint it.
I hop on my mount and ride it around looking for high-end MOBs.
When i find a solid lair, i'll tell the mount to stay 100m away and engage the lair. I use a training saber on the lair to control the damage I do - gotta make sure and milk the lair for all the creatures.
I currently hunt with an all-pearl saber (average quality pearls, i'm not risking any of my good/great pearls until after patch 7) but you should be ok with a 3-crystal 1-pearl or even a 4-crystal if one or two are "decent" crystals. And I never use special attacks unless I absolutely need them (like using the slash attack for the posture change to slow down something running away or to give me a chance to run from something, etc)
At the first spawn, i kill all but the last creature then use the knockdown + mindblast combo to get the approx. 1200 xp from that single kill. At my current level, my force bar has usually regenerated to the point that I can do the knockdown + mindblast combo three times per lair (once per wave). So on the best lairs i'm getting 450xp per kill, with 3-5 kills per wave, with a bonus of 1200xp on one kill of each wave. Plus 450xp from the lair itself, and occasionally an extra round of Xp from a "boss spawn".
I think one of the secrets is to stick in the same area, preferably on foot. I try to stay in a 500m - 600m radius of the place that i dropped my vehicle. If you just ride through an area on your bike it can seem deserted, because lairs don't seem to spawn until you've been there a while. Using my mount and/or traveling on foot I rarely have to travel more than 300m to find a lair to kill.
As I understand it, once I hit manipulation IV (i've got 550k / 800k to get there) i'll be able to use force throw on "empty" lairs (where the lair has been emptied of creatures and it shifts in to 3x damage multiplier) for a 4000+ xp bump per lair. Which should speed things up even more...
I assume that, like most other "normal" professions, XP per hour tends to increase pretty linerally as you increase in power.
I'm really hoping thats the case, otherwise it is going to take me a full year to get to Jedi Master - I'm hoping to get there in 4-5 months at my current rate of play....
My biggest complaint with jedi isn't the xp requirements, it is actually the saber crafting / decay. Removing the loss of rare ingredients with Publish 7 will help, but when the sabers still require repair with such ridiculous frequency (even when not using specials hardly at all) and we have such little ability to repair the sabers, that's what hurts the most. My current projection is that i'll burn through 15 sabers to hit Jedi Knight, and that might be a conservative estimate...

I two questions:
1) Is it fun? Is it not a completely brain numbing experience being a Jedi? (Because Hologrinding certainly is)
2) Is it possible with a different play style to make it fun? Are you so pathetically weak that the only thing you can do well is die?
I am on my 24th holo profession. I won't like to admit that I have wasted my time, but I will if the evidence is insurmountable.
P.S. I couldn't give a rats rear about the prestige value of being a Jedi. Being able to claim an achievement is nowhere near as fun as actually attaining it.
Unfortunately, it iswell balanced, emotionally fit, resposible individuals like you that are a minority in these kinds of games. You like many others, playthis game, as well as do other things, for recreation and enjoyment(that is where the balanced comes in). You are not playing to be "1337", or to "WTFPWNJoo" someone, or to strive inthis game because you feel inadequate in real life.
Because you are in the minority, and so many other players are here to elevate their ego in this digital environment, the game is filled with powergamers(and not the general powergamer, the kind that dont leave their house, take a shower, or have a meal away from the computer, let alone have a wife, girlfriend, or a pet to take care of).
These people by their very nature, chew through the content, and every normal paced advancement system the game developers put into place. To keep their game(SOE ow whatever MMORPG creator) from being "beaten" in a month, these kind of games are built with extreme time sinks and slowing processes). The end result is the balanced bathed individual that has seen the sun at least once a day is made to suffer, and regardless of what flames I get or trash people will spew, it is because of these extreme people that have no job, play 20 hours a day, or play 48 hours straight on game release, that totally ruin the experience for everyone else.
Basically, because of the extreme disgusting behavior of people playing these games for 20, 30, 40 hours at a clip, and playing every day that way, the game dificulty is jacked way up... end result is what would be..
Powergamer is forced to take 2 months to acomplish something...
Player like you takes 8 months to do something.
Like I said, you can thank the jobless showerless obsessed people, for your advancement problem. ![]()
To answer your question "I have no idea how some people are already Guardian 4444. That is just astonishing to me and I would be very interested in knowing how you did it."
I will use your own words, sort of.
Like everyone that is at Guardian 4 4 4 4, you need to GET RID OF
"...a Real Life with certain responsibilities "
Sad but true, and it is becoming so commonplace in these games anymore, I am wondering if the MMORPG is a good place to study mental illness and socially deviant behaviors.. LOL. Just kidding on the mental illness thing btw.

wife, children, job? ..........................a jedi craves not these things
hahahahahahaha, now i know why they told anakin he couldn't have a girlfriend, he wouldn't have any time for her, (natalie portman in background, "ani?.......ani? we need to discuss our future, ani?.......ani?)

Yeah, Jedi are too busy killing Rancors 10,000 times to have a social life.
