Thread: those who say JEDI ruin the star wars feel of this game! READ THIS (a repost)

Everyone says jedi take away from the STAR WARS feel of SWG...but you know what I say? If Jedi should run and hide..what about the Rebels? After all, merely being a rebel sympathizer was a death sentence. And yet, we have rebel declared cities, with names like 'Echo Base' and other such names that declare them to be part of the rebel alliance. Even without blatant rebel names, cities that openly declare themselves as part of the rebel alliance are kinda silly. The whole reason people DIDNT do that, is because they feared the wrath of the EMPIRE. What the DEVS should do..IMO, is this:Anyone ever look up at the stars, and see those BIG Imperial star destroyers? If not, you should, their in orbit of every planet that can have player cities (unless you turn your graphics off..but they ARE there)The devs should WIPE OUT the rebel cities. ONE BY ONE. Say the star destroyers orbitally bombard them. If one city or another has a shield generator (unlikely, as Echo base on HOTH was the only rebel base to possess a shield generator to sustain orbital bombardment) we will send in the Imperial Legions. Stormtroopers, AT-STS, AT-ATs, AT-PTs, TIE FIGHTERS.. TIE BOMBERS...In cities with rebel NPC guards in the street, they should be under CONSTANT attack by Imperial Troops. GANKED by stormtroopers and such. There should be like 500 level 25 stormtroopers everywhere now, seeing as common rebels are,the empire would respond in kind.Sure, alone the ST might suck, but you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE who could survive them in such numbers. If known, lone rebel operatives are fool enough to declare themselves in a home near other structures, no problem, a well placed Plasma Bomb from a TIE bomber will take care of him.In the interest of SW continuity...we should just wipe out the rebel cities, and everything in them...TIme to go get your loot real fast? Or just do a house pack up?People always complain that 10-15 active jedi knights ruin the game...what about the HUNDREDS of rebels running around in the open? So rebels..why dont YOU all go put your hoods over your head, and hide on your ice planets, and backwater wilderness worlds like YOU should be. Instead of making REBEL cities on naboo, one of the empires MAIN worlds...
You do make quite a vaild point
I don't disagree with you, at least when it comes to the absurdity of having rebel guards stationed in Theed, or even having as many rebels as there are imperials. As you alluded to, the Empire is the power in the galaxy, the Rebellion is just a relatively small band of guerilla fighters. Of course this is from a purely Canon standpoint.
However, this is a game. There needs to be some semblance of balance. If the Empire were really that dominating there would be no point in being a rebel, because there really is no game mechanic for small hit and run raids. The problem with Jedi is that there are not only 10-15 active complete templates(no FRS, so no knights atm), there are hundreds per server. And despite all the cries about nerfs, Jedi is still an alpha class. Put any well prepared Jedi up against a well prepared normal elite of similar skill level and the Jedi will come out on top everytime. And PvP is not the only place that experience problems due to the overabundance of jedi. PvE suffers because now the dev's need to balance for Jedi, which leaves normal prof's out in the cold in many cases. Just for example, a Mdef can stroll onto the vette, get all the loot, and walk off. As a normal elite prof, it only takes one or two of those SBDs to put me down.
So yes, I'm all for making SWG a more immersive Star Wars experience, but some things just aren't practical. Just as making the rebellion infinitely weaker than the Empire would be impractical, the introduction of hundreds of Jedi has been equally detrimental.

one thing i always thought rebs should have is bombs. a reb should be able to go into a factional npc city, and plant bombs in stuff. lightpoles, plants, etc. have to be sf to do it, only effects sf & npc's. if you are sf, you can search things and have a chance to disarm / get blown up.
now there is some real guerilla tactics. claymores on trees around bases, etc.
remember duke nukem laser wall mines

I agree, if your a purest looking for the Star Wars experience having Theed owned by the rebels makes no sense watching an AFK rebel keep killing that one stormy over an over out by the bazaar in Mos Eisley makes no sense. And if you are a purest its fair to say there are too many jedi but this is just the tip of the ice berg.
How is it we have cloning on every planet, its outlawed. How is it that a muck chucking hammer swinger is the best combat template while someone with a high powered pistol cant really damage anyone. We have a BH/Jedi system that stops a jedi from attacking a BH even though he knows his just stalking him waiting for the right moment to attack.
Most this game contridicts what we know of Star Wars and most the artifical constraints put on us mean Jedi arent really Jedi they are glow stick fencers. So to say Jedi ruined the feel of the game is a joke. Take out everything except the very basic game mechanics and we see someone with a hammer chasing a guy with aplasma rifleand beating him to death. Hows this Star Wars and not Everquest 1.5 so for people that think that no Jedi would turn this into the Star Wars of the movies are very much mistaken.

Well -Also, there should not be any explosions in space. Space is a vacuum, no oxygen = no big fiery explosions. But, whateva'.
gotta disagree here (geek time)
the atmosphere in the ship is combustable, plus any munitions & fuel they are carring. but you should not be able to HEAR the explosions. and dif races ships should have dif color explosions, as the atmospheres would be dif.
