Thread: What Jedi means to me

I am a Jedi.

What does this mean?

It means that I am not some uber l337 profession that ownz all other playaz. It isn't a continuation of TK, Swords, etc. What it IS is a brand new entrypointto swg, a new perspective and a new way to play. That is why the path is long, difficult and in some cases, not very fair. The payoffs are good, but there are a lot of weaknesses. If you are doing or wanting to do jedi to be uber-1337, then give it up now. If you want a challenging and rewarding experience that also will test your patience and committment, then stick with it, the payoff is there. People say that this or that non-jedi template is the best and kills jedi too easily and then cry and whine about it endlessly. You get an alt to be that other template, you don't HAVE to play the jedi. You don't have to even unlock to have fun. But for some of us, the journey is more important than the finished product. With jedi you get to use all the skills you slowly gain and get to really experiment with alll aspects of it. Dying to a BH in't fun for most people, but it isn't game breaking. It isn't the end of the world and you can regrind the lost xp in a reletively short time. It's only if you become obsessed with advancing that it can become a problem. When grinding jedi, don't set a time limit that you have to be a knight by, just take it moment by moment. "Always your mind on the future, never on where you are, what you are doing!" Yoda was a jedi master, and we also can look at these things as ways of teaching ourselves what it means to be a jedi. This is a roleplaying game, not a ganking game. The finished template is not the goal, learning to BE a jedi is.

Well for what its worth I like what you wrote but unfortunatelyalot of people who play Jedi only do it to gain 'uber leetness' and the fact they dont plus the fact they are vunerable on their quest to pvp uberness makes most of them very bitter and spiteful. (imo its a way for them to feel moreimportant and confident about themselves, that they cant manage irl)

I agree Jedi is a challenge and I love to rp even when im grinding(its training imo).

Thanks for sharing your feelings on the subject.

Great post...well thought out...the only thing is I wish they would make the journey a little more than it is for finishing the template.

I did my part to counter the one-star children around here.

i agree pretty much with you 100%

Jedi isnt meant to be the best against all comers 100% of the time. however all skills being the same it is more powerful. the power is probably about at the right spot in the curve. most people DO play it thinking that it will be a i-win type of thing and are vastly disapointed when they get there.

so far i am having a blast with jedi and havent regretted one second of my grind time to get there. yeah some of it is boring and dull and my day of worrying about XP loss are nearing an end but i cant think of any other skillset i want or enjoy more than jedi.

I would also like to add that I do see that there are things that I would like to have changed, but that overall, they aren't a big deal. I am encouraged by the responses to my original post. All of the people who have left comments, thank you.
