Game can be broken down into two camps now and I suspect many are in two boats here....
Jedi
1. Grinding out xp during respec so they can have a more valuable Jedi to sell on ebay. A knight or close to it will sell much better than a novice padawan.
2. Hoping that the latest jedi purge will make us more rare and therefore special. Im in this boat lol, i want peeps to see me and go "holy cripes, a jedi in the cantina" like old days.
Non-jedi
1. Staying cause too much time invested in game to leave. Most dont wanna start over in a new game and be a newb.
2. Staying because friend is. Although I suspect that one is starting to waver.
Im certainly not sticking around cause the game is fun anymore. It totally stinks now and is pointless. Im currently trying several different mmorpgs on the side, many of which Ive played before but didnt care for them.
Saga of Ryzom - reminds me of swg somewhat, skill based game with crafting and NO DAMAGE MULTIPLIER. Graphics are okay. Have signed up for 14 day free trial and testing now.
Matrix - yuck, worst mmorpg I ever tried.
EQ2 - Well, plagued with same issues as SWG, damage multiplier system, spells that do nothing (gee that sounds familiar) and zero customer service/support.
WoW - Very fun game, however...small worlds that leave little to explore. Level cap at 60, so after that nothing left to do. Crafting is okay but not nearly as important as in SWG. Very immature kiddie crowd, sorta like half the jedi here so I guess Im used to that lol.
Eve - waaaaaay to complex for me. Also cant ever leave your ship, in reality your toon IS the ship. Nice game for some but not my cup of tea.
City of Heroes - also a fun game but again not really a mmorpg. After you reach cap, nothing else to do. Combat is all there is really. City of Villains is really a separate game but does give the option of pvp. Fun for about 6 weeks then time to move on.
Guildwars - was tempted to not mention them here. Yes i hear good things, but lets be honest...its not really a mmorp in the traditional sense. Still, this game along with WoW are the ones currently stealing customers from SWG.
Final Fantasy - Truly bad game, PS2 players mostly and asian players who dont want english speakers in their groups. Game is centered around grouping. Solo is almost impossible. Graphics are dated with very little details in them. Awful UI. Just another typical orcs vs elves here (see a pattern here lol)
There are other mmorpgs out there of course but they are older generation of mmorpgs with outdated graphics and a well-established player base you'll never catch up to. Imagine trying to start EQ off as a newb lvl 1. I did a few 14 day freebie trials for games like Dark Age of Camelot and didnt like any of them (AC1 and 2 also). Bad graphics, and just another typical orcs vs elves games mostly.
And the future isnt looking that bright either...
Age of Conan - this seems to be typical of new breed of so-called mmorpgs. I call them that cause they arent really a mmorpg but more like battlenet ala diablo junk.
Vanguard - Lotta hype, however reading an E3 interview totally turned me off to the game. Dev immediately states that grouping would be central to game. Knowing this dev from EQ, I know that means it will be 99.9% grouping game, no thanks. Besides Im sick of elves and orcs.
LOTR - I have high hopes, but am guessing it will flop. Game has been in development so long the graphics from sceenies already look outdated and the game is still a year from release. Also the game was recently bought out and had the name changed from Middle Earth online, not a good sign for stability.
Fallen Earth - small mmorpg company making this one. Devs are big fans of Fallout (post apppocolyptic) games and inspired them to make something similiar. This I have high hopes for. Long way off though, not even in alpha stage yet.
Star Trek on-line - Same thing, loooong way from release. Probably 2 years from now. This is the one mmorpg I predict that will truly finish off SWG though. By the time it will come out SWG's numbers will be dwindling under 50k accounts anyway. Most who stay at this point are sci-fi junkies and trek will tempt them to away. So yes, SWG will last 2 more years but thats about it.
Thats basically it folks. Besides a few quirky small mmorpgs like Pirates of Caribbean (think thats title) releasing soon, there isnt much else to play. Lucky for SWG that currently they can get away with a shoddy game and poor customer service. I think SOE knows this as well. This is typical for new genre, improvements only come when competition forces it on them. So in conclusion, our future prospects dont look very bright. And without a doubt, SOE will continue to mistreat us while they still can.

You forgot ragnarok online! that game defines the term "mindless leveling." That's pretty much all there is. No story, very very little in the way of quests, its the game of grinding. when youre done grinding you can pvp, but pvp success is ruled more by template than by skill. The only really great thing about it is that the enemies are so cartoony that every kill is like destroying the dream of an innocent child.

Wrong.
Even if there is (not gonna drag this argument into this thread) a terminal "grace period" you are still racking up vis. When you grinded as a paddy, you grind next to a group? use force powers or your saber? You've got vis. Suspect you are always on the terminals.. better safe than sorry.
Anyway, even the rumored grace period has been between 3-7 days, no more, so suspect a bh anytime if you hunted with a group/flashed your saber around

PvP should be a fun thing to do, exciting, with strategy, risk, reward. Once you arecompletely templated, PvP related activities should really be 50% of what you look forward to, until your next template change. The game should not be about grinding, crafting, and roleplaying entirely, right? At least, not for many of us.
Ok, so you've grinded out your template, and you are as uber as you can be...you go to PvP, you soon find out the biggest problems are this:
1) You do not feel it is even viable to go looking for 1-2 peeps to hunt, cuz you will likely be ganked (let's forget cloakers for now)
2) Small groups, similar problem, but somewhat better as you have a chance at least. Eventually, however, you are ganked.
3) You join a full group. Now, you go around, maybe you gank on a small group or single, maybe even loading. Kinda fun? but not really.
4) Mass PvP battle...Ok, prolly the most fun, cuz you can run in and out and apply more strategy as a team or even solo player. BUT - lag is always horrible!!!
Bottom line, in most cases, PvP = Ganking or being Ganked...Neither are very much fun
How do we fix this? I'm looking for ideas that are "outside the box"
I'll start with one example:
Assigned Battles
In your character menu, you select "I am ready to PvP"...Within minutes, you and 7 other like-faction "I am ready to PvP" folks get a system message andMail message with a WP (like a mission). You are all automatically grouped, defaulting to highest PvP Ranking as Leader, allon same server/planet. The system could determine 4 on 4 or 3 on 3, depending on volume of PvPers at the time, or just random. The same number of opposingfaction folks also get the same "invite". If server lag is too high, it directs "PvP wannabes" to other planets. The mission does not start until all parties are within 100m of WP. Then it's all out battle. There is a reward offered, a random reward (similar to HIGH end loot) that get raffled amonst the 8 members, and perhaps a couple mid-level items also are given to a couple others. Your chances of getting loot depend on your activity: Amount of heals, Amount of strikes given, Amount of strikes taken, Time Engaged in Battle (all counting towards your chances...activity, and staying power, not just uberness). This number increases your probability, but the lootis still randomly assigned. These battles are given role-playing purposes and titles such as "defend Tandoshin stronghold from Imperial forces now. They areattempting to confiscatepowerfull weapons cache". The winning team's uber loot item might be an awesome Carbine - if the random winner is Carbine Master" Teams are random, so you just never know what the odds will be, and how hard you'll need to fight. Just the anticipation and preparation of battle will be worthwhile.
Ok, thats my idea (should I apply for a job at SOE? or just keep quiet?)
Whats your idea?
