Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet but I thought id chuck it on here.
How about having a recycler that you can put any items into, like cdef pistols, loot kit parts etc...each one has a resource 'value' and you get it turned into basic mineral/ore/chemical resources...maybe have it so you can choose what you get.
This will clear the bazaar of tons of junk items that no-one will ever use. The rarity of the loot depends on how much resource you get so a cdef might get you 10 units...but a krayt pearl would give you 50k. Of course the recycler will have to be hard to get but would clear up the database of a lot of crapaswell.

A guildie of mine came up with a similar idea for getting rid of all these useless items and clearing up the database. IIRC the idea revolved around selling the junk to the NPC junk dealers, the more stuff you sold to him the bigger rapore you gradually built up. As this rapore increased then the chance for him to offer you a rare item (furniture/painting etc) increased.
The idea being that rather delete the useless knives, cdefs etc you sold them, not for profit, but to build reputation and eventually have a chance to earn something non lootable.
