Thread: Armor appears to be amplifying damage rather than mitigating damage.

It seems I take way more damage with the armor on than I do with the armor off. I dont have any numbers telling me what the armor is doing for or against me so I will state what I have done to raise this concern.

My character is capable of useing both scout and assult armor and I have a full set of both. I pick faction missions that are my level, these I can solo and am able to fight single mobs with the faction missions.

With the either set of armor on any of these even con mobs ranged or melee are either owning me or geting me very close to incap/death. I take all the armor off, I kill the same even conned mobs with a good 25%-40% of my life remaining.

This evedence alone sugests to me that armor is amplifying instead of mitigating.

Devs please run some armor tests, you have the numbers we don't.

I haven't noticed this at all, my armor works fine. To see how much your armor is mitigating in the combat spam you have to enable the verbose combat message option, from what I have seen it is disabled by default

I see, thanks. I'll try testing it again when I can. It just seems I am more survivable bare but naked than I am covered head to toe in any armor. I'm just recalling the first 3 month the game was launched, the devs swore up and down armor was mitigateing damage but in the end after they ran some tests they found it was mitigating the right amount of damage but it was puting the damage on instead of taking it off. Same thing may be happening again with the new system.

Are you using TK perhaps? They are different in how armor works for them.

At this point I'm guessing the issue is all in my paranoid imagination and poor observation skills.

Your encumberance mods are quite low still...you might consider respecing to a master elite proffession so you get the bonuses at that level.

I actually take less damage with my armor off also. I'm Master Rifleman/Master Ranger. The pups are also borked. I put a speed/damage one on my T21 and the speed went up, not down and the dps dropped about 10 pts. A speed pup with no other mods worked fine though so I just use that. I hope they get all this stuff sorted soon.

Have you gone to option, selected all the verbose option for the combat spam? Think it's interface or chat or some such. There you can see damage type and damaged absorbed by armour.

ok, ive been testing all kinds of armor and they all seem pretty generic for the most part in terms of damage reduction.

Now, does anyone know how to translate the new numbers? ie: Assault Armor Energy Rating of 4335 (or somthing similar) and a Kinetic rating of 2333 (again: "or something similar")

Now pre-CU they listed it in percentages and I rather liked that. It let me know at glance how efficient the armor was.

Exactly what kind of impact do the new numbers mean?

And why did boots and gloves lose their ratings?

thanks in advance

I think an armour with 10000 armour points can be compared to 60% in the old system and that's max.

And the boots andgloves were removed as an hit location because Trandoshians couldn't wear either and it became their Achilles heel. (one shot death scenarios)

I have ran the numbers. ummm I cant make heads or tails. I raised quite a few skill boxes involving scout armor damage mitigation and I am definately taking profoundly knoticable more damage with the armor on than with it off. Thats as scientific as I can get.

Yes I am encumbered in movement, accuracy, and the other thing we should not be loosing the damage mitigation as a result of the encumberance. The encumberence is the price paid for the protection.

Without full armor penalty mitigation, your offensive power is being crippled more than is being made up for by the benefit your armor is adding. That is why you are experiencing this. Basically you take 1 step forward in defence, then 2 steps back in offence. Get yourself to master commando, and you will be much happier.
