Thread: Suggestion: Backpack Suggestions (Graphics Only)

I'm throwing in a few suggestions to improve the look & feel of the players' backpacks.

* Increase the bulkiness/thickness of most of the player backpacks out there. Most of them look like a wafer on our back. Make them bulkier, maybe double or triple in thickness/bulk so that it looks like a real backpack. The Tech-Pack is perfect, but most of the others need to be bigger graphically: The Field Pack, Survival Pack, etc.

Another reason I brought this up: Scout Trooper Armor is going to be available sooner or later. If you notice, that armor has a bump on the upper back, and it looks like you'll have a piece of white armor sticking out the backpack you'll be wearing.

* Color Customization for backpacks. May I suggest a pulldown color menu when it's unequipped? Just like the Collector's Edition Goggles? It doesn't have to have all the colors available, but a good selection of colors that make sense with survival gear.

I fully agree. And we need the Sandtrooper backpack type.

Just as a point to make, whenever the suggestion is for a piece of art to be altered, it seems to tie up a tremendous amount of the developer's art staff to make even small changes. I don't doubt for a second this is true, considering all of the different skeletal models, body types (image design type stuff), and animations the new graphics for items have to be keyed to.

Perhaps it would be just as feasible to allow bandoliers to be used as packs, thereby allowing for a huge diversity of looks, without sacrificing the additional 50 inventory slots? Just a thought, but as packs and bandoliers both take up the same clothing slot, this seems doable, and at a minimal effort in terms of art development.

The problems with scout armor, while this risks veering into GCW territory, might be fixable by introducing a rank shoulder pad which doubles as a item storage device, and takes up that same pack/bandolier clothing slot. Perhaps with colors being selectable by rank, for all ranks at your current rank, or lower (allowing smugglers and high ranking officers to purchase the appropriate rank pads for their customers or subordinates).

This might be a good temporaryfix for the problem of appearance, at least in the short term, until packs can be properly addressed in some mini publish down the road. I'm sure the Tailors would love to havea bandolier to sell that people would actually want, and I for one would welcome seeing a wider variety of looks in player characters.
