What are the do the different 12 month veteran reward items do. DO they do anything other then just sit and look neat?

My first 2 veteran awards are gone! I claimed them (self powered harvester, 30k resources) but didnt use them. After installing JTL they were gone! But I got 2 Luxury Jachts.
