IF A MOD THINKS THIS IS STICKY-WORTHY, PLEASE DO SO.

I keep hearing the same questions from newer players about different types of loot that seem to have no purpose. In truth, several of these seemingly useless items can be combined with other items to make useful items. This will serve as a guide to help the newer players and maybe teach the veterans something new as well. Please let me know if I’ve forgotten something, or if my information is wrong.

Chapter 1.
Your friend, The Junk Dealer-
Junk Dealers can be found in most major NPC cities. There are 3 different types of junk dealers:
1- A buyer of odds and ends
2- A buyer of clothes and jewelry
3- A buyer of weapons
(NOTE: There is a 4th kind of junk dealer, but they are on Kashyyyk, a separate section will cover them.)
All three types of Junk Dealers will only buy looted items, no player-made items can be sold to them.

The first kind of Junk Dealer will buy a wide variety of items, they also will give you Loot Kits (see next topic for information on Loot Kits). Any items that are listed as “broken” can be sold to them for a small price. “Broken” items include Broken Hand-Held Viewscreens, Broken, Datapads, Broken Meson Telescopes, Broken Binoculars, etc. Keep in mind, some of these “Broken” items can be repaired using other looted items, but we’ll get to that later on in Chapter 4. They will also buy Datadisk Message Fragments, but personally, I advise against selling them to a Junk Dealer. The reason will be explained later on in Chapter 3. Basically, this guy is a catch-all of sorts.

The second kind of Junk Dealer buys most clothing and jewelry. The only word of caution I have is that 99% of clothing that you will loot is junk, but once in a great while, you will loot a piece of clothing with a small skill mod attached to it. Before you sell any clothing or jewelry, examine it to see if it offers and special bonuses.

The third Junk Dealer buys all manner of weapons. There are a few types of non-crafted weapons that they won’t buy:
1- Weapons taken from a container in a dungeon
2- Quest rewards
3- Weapons looted from NPC’s on Kashyyyk (No idea why?)

Keep in mind, you will not get rich from selling to a junk dealer, most items sell for 25-50 credits each. Most players don’t go to the trouble of hauling junk along with them and just delete it. It is a personal decision, 25 credits isn’t a lot of money, but if you keep at it, it adds up rather quickly and it’s basically free money.

Chapter 2.
Loot Kits-
There are 5 different loot kits available: Blue Rug, Orange Rug, Glass Top Table, Model Gong, and Nabooian Sculpture. These kits can be obtained from Junk Dealer NPC’s. You can only have one kit at a time, so plan accordingly. What most players do is to gather all the parts first, then get the kit. That way, you don’t have a Blue Rug kit in your inventory, missing 3 parts when you get the final part needed for your Glass Table and have to ask someone to get the kit and assemble it for you and hope you don’t get scammed. To assemble these kits you will need to track down 10 items for each kit. Be advised, all parts for the loot kits are extremely rare since the CU. The parts are as follows:

Blue Rug:
1- Blue Rug Thread – First Section
2- Blue Rug Thread – Second Section
3- Blue Rug Thread – Third Section
4- Blue Rug Thread – Fourth Section
5- Blue Rug Thread – Fifth Section
6- Blue Rug Thread – Sixth Section
7- Blue Rug Thread – Seventh Section
8- Blue Rug Cloth Patches
9- Blue Rug Dye
10- Blue Rug Adhesive

Orange Rug:
1- Orange Rug Thread – First Section
2- Orange Rug Thread – Second Section
3- Orange Rug Thread – Third Section
4- Orange Rug Thread – Fourth Section
5- Orange Rug Thread – Fifth Section
6- Orange Rug Thread – Sixth Section
7- Orange Rug Thread – Seventh Section
8- Orange Rug Cloth Patches
9- Orange Rug Dye
10- Orange Rug Adhesive

Glass Top Table:
1- Glass Table Base – First Section
2- Glass Table Base – Second Section
3- Glass Table Base – Third Section
4- Glass Table Base – Fourth Section
5- Glass Table Base – Fifth Section
6- Glass Table Base – Sixth Section
7- Glass Table Base – Seventh Section
8- Large Glass Top
9- Small Glass Top
10- Glass Top Table Adhesive

Model Gong:

5- Model Gong Structure – Fifth Section
6- Model Gong Structure – Sixth Section

9- Gong Skin Front
10- Model Gong Adhesive

4- Nabooian Sculpture Base – Fourth Section
5- Nabooian Sculpture Base – Fifth Section
6- Nabooian Sculpture Base – Sixth Section
7- Nabooian Sculpture Base – Seventh Section
8- Nabooian Sculpture Gold Plating First Coating
9- Nabooian Sculpture Gold Plating Second Coating
10- Nabooian Sculpture Adhesive

Chapter 3.
Disks And Message Fragments-
There are many kinds of disks in the game, Encodeded Datadisks, Message Fragments, Corrupt Datadisks, Treasure Maps, etc.

Encoded Datadisks can be anything. To decode one, examine it in your inventory and use the “Decode” option. What you will end up with is something that nobody knows.

There are only three kinds of message fragments that you are likely to run across in your travels:
1- Imperial Transmissions
2- Rebel Plans
3- Rebel Orders
There are 4 sections to each, except the Rebel Orders, only 3 for it. They are clearly marked “Imperial Transmission ¼, Rebel Plans ¾, Rebel Orders 2/3, etc. Once you get all the parts needed, simply click on one of the pieces and open the radial menu, you will get an option to assemble the parts. Once you assemble the file, you can then turn it into the faction recruiter of your choosing. This is the only known use for these, and you can expect to get roughly 300-1000 credits for each complete file you turn in. Junk dealers will also buy the message fragments at 25 a piece. There are other message fragments in the game, but most are quest-related items.

Corrupt Datadisks can be fixed to make regular Datadisks, this will be explained further on.

Treasure Maps, while generally useless, can be fun. Occasionally, you will find something worth keeping, but most of what you get will be sold to the junk dealers or deleted. To operate a Treasure Map, examine the disk and follow the instructions.

nice post

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - JULIO TORRES
