Thread: Crystals: Where to Find?

I've been playing with the Canyon Corsairs on Lok and tend to get quite a few crystals off of them. But appraisals from the local Jedi are telling me the clear ones usually are Poor to Fair. Not sure how the clear crystal drops work (higher ones just simply more rare?)
I've gotten a few crystals off of Binarye Pirates too.
Is there anything else that drops crystals I should be looking for? (I hear NS Elders, but as a master fencer I'm useless)

Unfortunately, if you want the better crystals, you have to fight high level NPC's or krayts. You can get a clear crystal (aka power crystal) from just about any npc in the game.....the rate they drop are rare no matter what quality they are. I've fought canyon corsairs for days and only got 2 power crystals from them (one was fair and the other one was good).
Anyway, the tougher the mob is, the better the chance they will drop a high quality crystal....for instance, I've looted power crystals from elders about4 times within the lastfew daysand they were all premium quality.....then last night I killed about 12 Elders and got nothing but credits on all of them except one (and I got heavy duty clasp on that drop 
). I then switched to hunting krayts for a full buff session and got nothing but tissues (no pearls).....so my whole day yesterday yeilded absolutely nothing. So you see, just because something is high level, they don't always drop stuff.

So you see, just because something is high level, they don't always drop stuff.As a master fencer, you are basically limited to low to mid level mobs as you either don't have enough damage or you just can't damage certain high level mobs (high level nightsisters, smc's and elders). The best thing you can do if you want to get good loot drops is to get either swordsman, rifleman or TKM as a second profession....Since you have fencer, commando might be a viable option as well (although commando's are still limited in what they can do solo).
The other thing you can do without changing templates is to get a couple of good friends or players that you trust, form a group and go hunt high level mobs together. Do it long enough for each of you to get a good loot drop also....it's nothing I hate worse then going out in a group where we agree that each of us will get some loot and half the group quits after they've got their loot (friend or not), then your stuck with decayed armor and whatever other losses you suffered and no loot to show for it.
Still, as a fencer, you can be the tank in the group while you let another powerful character do the damage....fencer is the best tank in the game as a single profession....if you dabble, it's even better......I use to tank anything in the game when I was a fencer (even if I couldn't do damage to the mob...but the purpose of tanking is not to do damage but to keep the attention of the mob keeping it off of your supporting cast while they do the damage.....many people misunderstand what it means to be a tank....they always assume that tanking is to do a lot of damage and to survive a long time and not die.
I have to tell you though, when I was a master fencer, In a 4 months period, I died maybe twice that I can recall.....and one of those times was because I ran out of stims and forgot to put a fresh pack in my top inventory before the battle with 3 NS rangers and 2 spellweavers. The other time I died was when an elder it my mind pool for 10k damage (I never wore a helmet as a fencer), needless to say that noone can survive a 10k Mind hit even if your armored (youd have to have over 2000 mind pool too).
Also, remember that preparation is the most important factor when hunting as a fencer....you also have to know your weaknesses and make it a point to force your enemy into either not exploiting your weakness or force your weakness to become a strength. Fighting high level mobs as a fencer is more than just run in, tank, and do all the damage you can like a swordsman can....it's about preparation and knowing your opponent......
I suggest you go kill some tuskens as a fencer....they do drop high quality crystals...I've got many different kinds from them before (a premium once, fairs, poors, good, quality)...the drops are not that frequent though.....I exclusively hunted at the tusken fort for 2 weeks straight (mainly looking for another feed tube)...but I got crystals instead...not a bad trade off

Elders were dropping them up until publish 13.1. Not anymore though.
BTW, hardwired, you got crystals off elders after pub 13.1? Didn't think anyone was. I haven't in about 50 elders since pub 13.1

If NS are dropping crystals they must be really "really" rare right now because I've killed 1000's of NS including elders since the patch and still not 1 crystal drop.

yes I've got crystals from nightsisters recently.....had to kill 5x more than I use to, but still, I have got some. since last friday, I guess on average that I killed about 10elders a day.......so in about50 - 60elders, I got 4 crystals.....I wouldn't say that is a high rate like it was before the patch....but hey, when the stronghold is as empty as it's been for the past two weeks and only one other profession can outdamage you, you tend to have an advantage killing elders. Just can't wait until my krayted T21 is ready....
I think it was the last hotfix a few days ago that broke loot though, probably when the devs tweaked the loot drops for krayt pearls is when they broke something.....but I've had no problem with loot drops until this past tuesday when I noticed a big decrease in the variety of loot as well as the frequency of it. Don't know exactlywhat possibly broke it, but it sure wasn't pub 13.1.....but I'm willing to bet it was that last patch....either way it goes, I killed alot before the patch and I'm still doing the same afterwards....the rate at which I kill stuff hasn't changed....I'm just getting less loot than I use to......

Hardwired sounds like he's having a pinnochio moment. Elders are NOT dropping crystals as Ive committed genocide on them without any decent loot.

Lets pretend the devs really were messing with stuff they had no buseness even looking at (the code), trying to get juvies nerfed. Ok, I can believe that a bug could take out pearls and crystals all together, but please explain Nyax. What happened to Nyax? I looted a +11 tape off a rebel npc two days ago (post 13.1), so i know that tapes aren't broken accross the board. How are pearls, crystals, and ONLY Nyax SEAs all tied together? They are all big money items, and they all got nerfed, not bugged. That's how.
