Honestly, I don't know why they exist.....however, although I haven't tried it myself, it's possible that they can be used in conjunction with multi-modded SEA's to get the second mod or the mod with the lower number to stick. so for instance I have a CA like this....

One hand damage +6

Weapon experimentation +5

Well, we know that the one hand damage is no good (doesn't work) and that it will stick because it's the highest mod and the first listed on the CA. Now everyone has always said that to get the experimentation you need to place another +6 one hand damage CA in the clothes first, then apply the multi-mod CA second......well, I was thinking that maybe the negative ones do the same thing....so if I had a -6 one hand damage CA, placed it first and then maybe the weapon experimentation would then stick.....Like I said, I haven't tried this myself and it's just a theory....but a lot of people automatically think that negative SEA's are useless and just destroy them.

Also, another theory I have is that maybe if you already have +6 one hand damage on some clothing and you might be able to use a -6 one hand damage CA to remove the +6 from the clothes......now if that would free up a socket on the clothes, then that might be a reason these negative tapes exist...but this theory is highly unlikely.

Then the absolute last reason they exist are just like you said, just a bad loot drop like a cdef pistol or a clothing that drops with no mods on them.

I'm not saying any of these things are true...but until someone do test, I wouldn't rule these out. However, no matter what the reason negative SEA's exist, a weapon experimention is worthless no matter how you would use it....there just isn't any positive reason for using one, if they do serve a purpose.

no this is incorrect...mods don't stack, and the game sees it as negative 6, not minus 6. In order to get the example above to work you would need to insert a 1 handed dmg +6. Plz refer to this very informative guide on attachments: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=210760

negative mods are worthless, no idea why they added em to the game other than to make you mad when you loot that -6 2 handed speed

They exist to infuriate us. The Devs said a *VERY* long time ago that it was a bug...but you've seen they've really gotten on removing the blank/negative SEAs, right?

I think they exist for the same reason the broken-beta mods still do - they increase the possiblity of parity that some/most SEAs looted are going to suck.

Poor coding only reason. And I don't undertsnad why they never get around to fix this. Shouldn't be to hard to solve.

The reason why negativeenhancements do exist is the fact that there are also Skill Enhancers with exactly 0 skill enhancing. Which is in my opinion more crap cause an enhancement could be + or - but an enhancement of zero is completely BS

Its simple it would require them to /fix the loot. Which they apperently wont do or even acknowledge. It aint broke if you ignore it

lol for those of you who think its a "simple" task, you obviously are unaware of the complexity of even most common day items.

Anyway, while it is not a simple task, regardless of that fact its a long known bug that has not had time invested into it to repair because the problem isn't "significant" enough vs the time/money investment to fix the problem.

But in a game like this, loot is a major factor as there is little to no story that can be pursued in the universe, so most players end up loot hunting. Its disappointing that after all this time that a problem like this is ignored and not rectified.

They are for people who are conscientious feel like they are too "uber", so they want to even out the playing field by taking away some of their skills.

They are in the game because the original coding was a bit off, and is now buried so deep that a huge amount of effort would be needed to fix that "random roll"

And not only negative mods, but mods that dont actually exist in the game... these are here still from BETA (Eg. Heavy weapons speed, 1-handed melee damage etc), just another way to gain "parity" I suppose...

I love this game, and have a huge amount of respect for all the Devs, but these broken mods still knocking around from almost 2 years ago... well, infuriating for me, and in all honesty gives the game a very unproffesional feel... it's actually got to be a bit embarrasing to some of them, but like the above poster said, If we don't admit it's broke, we don't have to fix it....

sigh for now...

I have hope for the future still tho !
