Thread: Is item decay still necessary?

My memory is a little fuzzy on the details, but IIRC item decay at death (and insurance for some items) was added to the game due to the large number of people who took "suicide express" to get out of remote areas back in the days before mounts, vehicles, and player cities.

Does it still make sense to have this decay? I can understand it for items that are crafted by artisans, but for everything that is a reward or other item, it might make more sense to just make it decay-free, especially for items that you can only get once per character. With mounts, vehicles, and player cities few people seem to abuse the "suicide express", maybe it's time to make away with item decay.

Yeah, people are still going to abuse the "suicide express" anyway.

It is still necessary, at the highest level.

Many, if not all of the quest rewardweapons from the ROTW are equal to, or close to equal to the upper end weapons that a crafter could craft. Making it so they'd never decay would destroy a lot of business for crafters. Weaponsmiths in particular.

Decay is what keeps people coming back to crafters, which is why it's an integral element in the game.

I think the original poster ws referring to decay on death, not decay through usage (weapons do not decay on death) in any event).

I think there should be decay unless you insure, and then there shouldn't be decay on death. But everything should decay on usage (incl. clothes). Having armor decay on death is stupid IMHO asit decays fast enough already through usage.

Yeah, I agree about the armor. And I kinda wish the decay rate through use was decreased a bit as well, for armor. I mean, I lost me one-million-credit suit of Rebel Assault armor in about a week, which really sucked. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have used it so much, but it was the only armor I had at the time.

Item decay is still necessary to get people to come back to crafters.

But what I don't like is the rapid deterioration of Armor.

The condition loss of everything else is actually fine. Weapons feel they lose condition slower nowadays... maybe it's because we're not all attacking at the Speed Cap with the best specials and PUPs equipped anymore. I recall Overcharge Shots + PUPs eat up weapons in the Pre-CU days.
