You can't. Its been like this since the beginning. The sockets on backpacks means nothing.

You can however get crafted backpacks with specific +5 & +3 skill mods.

I have a backpack that has 3 sockets available and i was thinking about putting some attachments on it...but i dont even know if you can because whenever i try to drag the attachment to the pack it of course goes inside the backpack...so does anyone know if you can even put attachments in backpacks or are the sockets in them completely useless? thanks for any help

The sockets on backpacks were originally intended for Cargo Pockets - adding pockets to your pack was supposed to give you more max items in your pack, but this was never implemented

Only a thought!

What if the backpack is full to max?

Good question.

I know you can buy backpacks with stats as a temporary solution, but how to attach SEAs I have yet to discover :-(

The backpack I have is with 4 or so different skillmods, very nice, it's called "Lightweight military backpack" and didn't cost alot compared to other stuff on my server (It cost a tenth of what my shirt with only 2 skillmods cost me).
