Thread: Does anybody know where/how i can get asteriod materials?
Here is the 2 minute version.
Get a ship. Buy a Mark III mining laser. Buy a large cargo hold (starfighter)
Equip the laser and equip the cargo hold (holds 1,550 units of resources).
If you have a ship with 2 gun ports......buy a mining tractor beam as well. (speeds up harvesting).
Launch into space, I suggest an easy location...like over Theed. Your going to end up getting jumped by Asteroid Bandits when you harvest.....over Theed for instance they are only Level 1's....you can pretty much ignore them.
Find an Asteroid. You can find the locations in the pilot forums. There are two easy ones over Theed.
Get about 400m to 500m from the ateroid chunk. Fire the mining laser at it. After a few shots a chunk should break off. Target the chunk and fire at it. Aftera few shots some smaller chunks should break off. Think of it as the old Asteroids game in the arcade back in the 80's (if your old enough).
at this point you can either 1) shoot the really small chunks and be fairly close to them....it then brings those chunks into your cargo hold; or 2) use your tractor beam.....have it going on those small chunks...it will pull them right into your cargo hold. Method 2 will give you more harvest.
When you get good you can harvest 1,500 units in about 10 - 15 min.
