My copy of TTE 3-in-1 came with an instruction book of like 2 pages of legal and 8 pages of keyboard commandsand that's pretty much it. I just started last week and have made novice in a professon. I'm looking for some good info on professions and armor. At this point I have pretty much zero idea what I can and can't wear or even what the full page of stats mean. I noticed that weapons have a required CL...so that makes dealing with them really easy. What about armor? How can I know what I can and can't wear just by looking at the piece on the vendor? Does armor have some sort of hidden (suggested?) CL based on it's -stat mods or something?

Checked the AS forum, and no stickies about how armor works that are geared to customers, hmm.

oh well, here is my run down:

look it your novice elite combat skill box.
It should list three things like:

Assault armor movement mitigation - 30%
Assault armor accuracy mitigation - 20%
Assault armor rate of fire mitigation - 10%

This means that
A) youre certed for Assault armor.

Assault is chitin / composite
Recon is mabari / ubese / tantel
Battle is Bone / Padded / marauder

B) armors drawbacks is its hindrance.

if you had the above stats then an armor with hindrance of 40/30/20 would slow you down by 10% for movement, rate of fire, and accuracy. Per piece, I believe.
if it had 20/ 20/ 20 it you do nothing to you except slow your rate of fire.
if it had 10/ 10 / 10 you could wear the armor with no drawbacks

As you go up in skills your mitigations go up allowing you to wear better armor without any drawbacks.
hope this was helpful.

There are 3 categories of armor:

1. Reconnaissance Armor
This includes: Mabari, Tantel, Ubese, Ithorian Guardian, Kashyyykian Ceremonial, and Factional

2. Battle Armor
This includes: Bone, Marauder, Padded, Ithorian Defender, Kashyyykian Black Mountain, R.I.S.

3. Assualt Armor
This includes: Chitin, Composite, Ithorian Sentinel, Kashyyykian Hunting, Factional

You receive a certification for one category of armor in most "elite" combat professions. Marksman and Brawler are NOT elite professions. Rifleman, for instance, gives you the cert for Reconnaissance armor.
