Yes, and no. If you have done the Trando's 'Destroy the Avatar' mission, then you can. There is a woman in Kachiro who will talk about how famous you are for 'nearly' destroying the Avatar. ((When you do the mission, you make the reactor go 'boom', which makes alot of pretty lights, but doesn't destroy the station, just everyone on it. Well, it would seem that everyone raced back up there to claim it. Again.)) She will give you a mission to collect multiple samples. This quest is relitively easy, and can be repeated as many times as you like, allowing you to go to the Avatar whenever you want.

is there any way to get up there without having the quest, or coming with someone that has the quest?

A bunch of us, without the quest requirements, went in one guy's SoroSub, and fought for hours up there. Makes you want to come back and do the quest. Hope that helps.

I have almost completed the quests to get to the avatar platform.

Do all my friends have to complete the quests in the run up to it or can

I bring them along with my access codes ???

Yes, your friends can all go on your ticket. You'll need to fly the group there in a multiperson ship I believe.

So long as all of your group members are within the /comm range of the station when you choose to land on the Avatar, they will land with you. I usually stick to 500m or closer.
