Is it just me or is the whole collector craze ruinning SWG?
I think that SOE should remove the RPG from MMORPG when referring to SWG. If this were truly a roleplayers game you wouldn't be giving away things to players based on whether they are newbies or veterans. You would be giving them to crafters for all players to enjoy. But unfortunately the marketing department of SWG doesn't agree to this.
Also, the whole phat l00t in SWG is becoming rather ridiculous. When the single most expensive item in game is not only utterly worthless and crappy but is also not only not rare at all in the starwars universe but outdated and considered hasardous to your own health. If you haven't guessed it allready I am indeed referring to the "allmighty" jetpack.
In the starwars universe jetpacks aren't "uber" rare in the timeperiod the game takes place in. They are just outdated. They've been mostly replaced by repulsor packs. That isn't to say that a jetpack isn't still used by the common mercenary. You could most likely pick one up for a few thousand credits. But then again SOE isn't really too focused on the RPG factor of the game. No instead they cater to the collector. Heck, a few thousand players leave the game and they figure they can fix it by throwing in some new useless hard to get item to attract the masses. Funny thing isthat it actually appears to work. You might say that SOE isn't really to blame here, the players are.
On a sidenote, seeing as I was referring to the jetpack earlier (which happens to be a much coveted item by myself, not for it's collectability but for the fact that I hope SOE decides to give it the fully strategic value that it deserves). I would like to propose that SOE makes the Jetpack slightly less hard to get by making the whole process of aquiring one as it is today give you a schematic with a limited use which you can then use to craft perhaps 20 or so items. Thereby effectively lowering their price to roughly2 mill credits or so.
Also, a Jetpack isn't a thing to be used for transportation. A jetpack is supposed to provide a soldier/merc/orwhatever with a means of surprise in battle, a quick getaway, providing distance between you and your target for kiting or just simply to get to a position where you can take cover and pound on your target with everything you got. A jetpack is not supposed to be an expensive hangglider!
Yeah I know it's a rant but hey, what'sya gonna do?
