The Varactyl is the same speed as pretty much every other mount in the game.

As I can only have two pets on my datapad I couldn't give you any exact numbers, but I know I ride side by side with a friend on a Kaadu.

The speeder... If I had to guess it'd run like a speederbike at best.

The BARC speeder goes as fast as an AV-21 and goes up hills really well.

The BARC is slightly faster then the swoop even on flat ground, not much but a little bit.
The Varactyl on the other hand is really slow (Fast for a mount, want slow check out the bolotaur -_-). Even in /gallop mode a landspeeder easily passes it.

However, I believe that the Kaadu was previously the fastest mount in the game. My Varactyl is much faster than my Dewback or Bantha. He also swims at a pretty good clip. One tip I will give you for swimming mounts, and this may be true for all mounts, is that while you can't /gallop once you are in the water riding the Varactyl, if you /gallop and then enter the water he swims faster than normal.
