Thread: Large Aurilian Plant still has changing requirements???

I purchased a large aurilian plant a few weeks ago, and it was in perfect condition with a very slow growth rate. Keeping the water and nutrients at the same level (the previous owner told me it liked the lowest setting of below normal water and above normal nutrients), it has fluctuated between very slow growth and no growth at all - even when the water and nutrient levels have remained the same.

I was under the impression that once these plants found a setting to their liking, they always remained the same. Is this not the case?

Since keeping it constant wasn't working, and very slow growth is a bit too close to no growth for my comfort level, I'm going to start from scratch. Everything has been emptied out and I'll continue to load and reload my home until I find some sort of positive growth rate, but is anybody else experiencing problems with fluctuating requirements for an already full-grown plant?

I've had my plant many months now..ive grown it since it was small and found the correct setting being :Water Normal...Nutrient :above normal Growth:varies...the plant is in perfect condition..i use very high quality water and nutrients ..try to stick with 1 very high quality resource for the water and 1 very high quality resource for the nutrients...my growth is currently above normal and has been for a few weeks...

Ah ha, so the growth rate does fluctuate, even if the water and nutrient levels do not. Interesting. I was under the impression that everything would always stay the same once it found its happy place. I guess I still need to find a setting that keeps it above "very slow" growth, because one notch down and there isn't any growth at all. I'm really just anxious to get my first fruit, but since the growth keeps changing, it's been a long time coming.

Anyone else have more input on what's working to maintain their large plants?

I have 2 large plants.. they've been large and perfect condition for many months. If I keep both nutrients and water at normal all the time then there's no fluctuation at all... one stays at "very slow" and the other at "slow"

Just confirming that you do know that there's two 'clicks' at each level; so there's below normal 1 and below normal 2 for both water and nutrient, and same for 'normal' and 'above normal'.

So what you might be seeing is this:

You load in. Plant updates, sees that the water is at below normal 2 and nutrient at above normal 2, says "great, very slow growth" and subtracts one from both nutrient and water, making water Below Normal 1 and Nutrient Above Normal 1. You go over and check the plant, and you see 'water: below normal, nutrient: above normal, growth: very slow.' and think everything's fine.

The next time you check the plant, it sees that the water is at below normal 1 and nutrient is at above normal 1, and sets itself to "no growth." because that's what that setting translates to. It may or may not 'use up' more nutrient/water, but you look at the plant and it says "water: below normal, nutrient: above normal, growth: none" and that puzzles you.

These plants are very finicky. Not all plants will get to the "fast" or even "normal" growth rates. Personally, since the plant is a Large plant, I'd be very happy if it *stayed* at very slow or even no growth, rather than declining.
