Thread: CA Question: Cover vs. Taking Cover

I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between a "Cover" CA vs. a "Taking Cover" CA. I found a +11 "Cover" CA and was wondering about its value. I noticed that "Cover" is a skill mod in a branch of the Rifleman profession, yet I can't seem to find "Taking Cover". Would such an attachment be of value to a Rifleman?

I would guess that "Taking cover" would increase you chance of successfully taking cover, and "Cover" would increase your defenses while you are in that state. Since taking cover rarely fails, and if it does, you can immediately try again, the only value I could see in a "Taking Cover" tape like that would be to cancel out a mod on a different tape.
The other big problem is that almost no riflemen actually use cover as it only provides ranged defense and you have to be prone. This could be useful against Sith, Canyon Corsairs, and Black Sun who tend to stick to ranged vs. ranged fighting, but is completely useless against anything that has a good chance of going melee on you once aggrod. If it was an AA, I'd say it is pretty much worthless (other than for cancelling out mods) because who would waste a slot on their belt/bando/ubese shirt on an attachment with such limited use/benefit?
Since it is a CA, I could see it being somewhat useful, but not to the point of making an instant fortune. On Bria, I'd pay 100K for it, but others may pay more. I just wouldn't expect it to sell for millions. Might as well toss it on the trade forums and see what comes of it, but be prepared for flames of "OMG Cover is completely useless - U R teh STUPID NEWB!". Good luck!
