Hi,

I just wonder... isnt there an outrage about Smedleys newest letter?

Am I anlone that feels allowing to sell virtual good in a GAME for real money is totally ridiculous... and when they start it over at EQ2... they do a big step at standardizing that kind if behavior, and we will very soon see this in SWG and other games too... I know there is a big black market about it. But I always knew that ppl buying Jedis on Ebay are doing something wrong! I feel its wrong, and I personally dislike it that its going to be legalized sooner or later...

at least they can monitor it and make possibly make get a % out of the transaction. In other words, playing games for money is now legal, more ppl will get into it and thus more subscribers to SOE. The only reason it was banned was because SOE wasn't profitting off of it. So now they're giving into sin and getting more business, in other words, it seems to me like legendary items/weapons are going to drop a bit more now allowing for some trades. Basically they can regulate the flow of money items into the game now in whatever way they wish.

Want more ppl to pay more money for a certain item? break the spawn and release them little by little. Very smart, first game to actually promote these antics and bold enough to allow it. Seems kind of hurtful IMO though, probably work like a bazaar only tied to your real bank account.... just sounds like another sin hole to me.

If someone is dumb enough to pay hundreds of dollars for something in a video game then why not be able to take advantage of it?

I think it's a great idea (not really an idea though, its just a simple reality in all popular MMORPG's).

I've played UO in the heyday and people were speding 1000's on items but it didn't matter, the game was still a blast and you could still get cool items with in game credits. Don't believe the doomsday sayers, an open trade forum for RL Cash is a blessing in MMORPG's.

Ive seen games fall prey to usd ness.
I told a buddy of mine about it and he said.

"
padren zegt:
and we believe this is a $200 million dollar market worldwide, and there are a huge number of our players taking part in the buying and selling of virtual goods.
padren zegt:
crack has a bigger market - should they help facilitate its sale? x.x

Where there is a market.

I wouldn't buy a char, that's dumb. Creds? Just by running around killing random spawns you can average 100K. Buy creds? What for?

Loot... I won't lie. If there was a scythe I really wanted... maybe. I can count 5 people selling for in game creds though? No, I don't see it.

Some people get all self rightious about buying and selling credits/characters/items and say "why would you ever pay real money for virtual goods?"

Imagine for a second that you are not a looser living in your mother's basement with nothing better to do than play SWG 24/7. Put yourself in the shoes ofa professional working 9 hours a day, and getting payed about $20 per hour. Between work and family, she has about 1-2 hour per week-day, and6 hours on a weekend to play SWG. You might even call this player a "casual player" if you were to be so bold.

Grinding missions, the easiest but lamest way to get credits, is not fun (for most) and at the best of times can net about 600k credits per hour. There are other, more efficient ways to make money, but as you can see on the "business and economy" forum, most of the population is having a hell of a time getting past the grind aspect of making money. The professionaldoes not play SWG to grind, she plays to unwind from a stressful day and have some fun. At $6 per million, she can buy 3 million credits for the equivelant of 1 hours IRL work where it would have taken her 5 hours to grind this money out. She is not being foolish, she is being efficient.

Almost everyone has a certian amount of money they spend for entertainment. This money is basically "throw away" money that is spent to provide the spender with a little bit of pleasure and enjoyment. Spending $20 on a DVD is no different from spending $20 on 4 million credits. Or spending $1000 on a home entertainment system. Or buying a $50 play station game. Or droping $50 to get some high altitude U2 tickets. Just because you spend your entertainment money elsewhere doesn't mean that others should need to be like you. $=credits/platnum/gold for a reason.
