I was in the Beta, and for a month or so after, but I've been gone since then. The grinding was getting to me. But there's a lot more content since then, so I came back. And I'm having trouble.
Are weapon certifications still bugged? I remember they had trouble when they put them in. I've got two boxes in Carbine, and on my Ctrl-S it shows all my weapon certifications. It says I'm certified on the DH17, but when I equip one, it tells me I'm not certified for it. What's going on?
The bazaar is relatively deserted. If there's no one buying and selling on the bazaar, how do I get rid of loot that I don't want?
As long as I have your attention, can I also ask a few questions not related to items and loot?
Why is it so deserted? Is everyone in space and player cities? In three cities I've visited so far, I've seen about ten other players, total, and most were standing around shouting to sell their wares, and didn't care about anything else.
It used to be vibrant, full of people, helping each other learn skills and languages, always someone willing to help out a newbie... it doesn't seem to be like that anymore. It seems deserted, and when it's not deserted, it's selfish and only populated by min-maxers. Of those ten players I saw, at least six were Teras Kasi masters. Is that the flavour of the month?
And now I'm reading a little about this Combat Upgrade. It's usually discussed in such numbers and terms and abbreviations that I have no idea what's going on, but the gist seems to be that combat roles are shifting to be more like other MMOs -- tank, mage, support, etc. -- that's one of the reasons I came back, to get away from that.
I like the addition of the droid to help you out with some of the basic concepts of the game, but other than that, it's really not newbie-friendly, either in-game or on the forums. Beginner information is very hard to find.
Is anyone willing to help out a newbie/oldbie?

Polished black DH17s currently have no cert anywhere. Normal ones should work fine though.

what server are you on? I just started a month ago on Sunrunner, and while there of course are a lot of AFK hawkers, and TKMs, there are PLENTY of newbie helpers and friendly faces. I've not once looked far for company. Maybe you're just on the wrong server. If you feel like trying another server, come to Sunrunner... we can "grind" together.
As far as the pistol certs.... they've been fine for me... I can use what it says and when i equip something i don't know how to use it says that damage will be greatly reduced.
And I hear ya about all the acronyms....

The bazaar ain't deserted, maybe you just trying to sell useless stuff or your wares are over priced. I usually troll the bazaars every 1 or 2 days and selling semi-valuable items, but I also know what items are worth and I understand it might be hard to figure out what items are worth in the beginning.
As bazaars have a price cap of 20k and you only have a limited amount of items you can place, most crafters have a vendor which they are selling there wares through. They have implemented vendor search lately, which is a pretty handy tool. Just hit the very right tab on bazaar, select 'galaxy wide' - search and use the filter options for the best priced items you are looking for. It also good advice to troll the trade forums of your server, to get a feeling what loot is worth.
Most of the NPC cities are deserted, but some are pretty crowd. I would try places like Tatooine - Mos Eisley, Corellia - Coronet, Naboo - Theed and Dantooine - Mining Outpost.
Helpers are hard to find sometimes, but they are out there… I never reject people asking for advice, but I also never tip people money, that are asking for it… I tip entertainers and docs that offering there service to me.
You see a lot of TKM around, cause its an easy/cheap profession. Actually the uber professions for PVE are Docs/Swordsman… or anything with Swordsman, but to be real strong you need to speed cap with attachments, what will cost you some mill of credits. With the upcoming CU everything will change, so don't consider to go that way.
You don't see them hanging in the Starports, cause they are out in the wild hunting high end mobs.

Try to join a guild, cause you will always have people to ask for advice in guildchat, as well as friends to hunt with.
I hope this info helps you a little.
