Is there any trick to finding these? I have killed many random spawns, and I am just wondering if I am having bad luck or if I am not finding the right type of random spawns.

Thanks for the help.

Only killed the GDK 5 times and got a drop of 8 scales on the third.

Didnt know that Giant Dune Kimogilas spawned randomly but im 100% certain that the Giand Dune Kimogila that spawns at kimogila town (POI) drops them. You might have to kill him many times and hes on a 15 mins respawn timer. Good luck.

Thanks for the offer... but I am not sure that we are on the same server, and I would like to loot some myself to help some friends get some RIS armor as well.

I think you've just been a bit unlucky. For some odd reason, our server has very very few natural spawns of GDKs (at least it did when I was hunting them a while back) so I had to resort to killing the one that spawns at the POI. I had to kill 27 of them before I got my first drop of GDK scales. Then out of the next5 kills, I got three lots of scales. /shrug, I guess it's just totally random: all you need is a bit of patience, but it is worth it. I used them to get myself a nice set of RIS made by a guildie and wearing it feels that bit more special for the hard work that went into getting the bits needed to make it. Good luck!

GDK scale drops can be frustrating. It's not unusual to kill 20+ to get a drop. And, of course, they never drop higher than 8 in a stack (at most), so you'll need two drops to get the required scales for a full suit of RIS.

Just give it time. The easiest spawn is the one at Kimo Town--it does drop GDK scales, same chance as wild spawns, so far as I can tell. Wild spawns will usually despawn after you make about 5 kills--an added layer of frustration. But it all makes getting that final drop you need all the sweeter.

Good luck and hang in there!

Agree.

My drop rate is also about 5%.
