They take stacks of differing resources and combine it into one stack of a "generic" resource.
For example: Say you are grinding, and need 75 units of metal and 25 units of chem.
At the end of your grind session you are left with this:
74 units of "foo" copper
24 units of "bar" fiberplast
51 units of "stuph" copper
22 units of "thingy" fiberplast
25 units of "hookah" copper
4 units of "some" fiberplast
By using a metal recycler, you could stick all your scraps into it, and get 150 units of "recycled" copper. By using a chemical recycler, you'd stick in all the fiberplast and get 50 units of "chemical compound"
The only thing I DONT like about the chem recycler is that it doesn't work like a metal recycler.
If you stick in fiberplast, you get "chemical compound" not a generic form of fiberplast.
The metal recyclers will give you a generic equivalent of whatever metal you stick in.
I.e, mixed coppers all come out as "recycled copper", Mixed steels come out as "Recycled Steel"
I know several architects who LOVE the metal and ore recyclers, since walls and bricks dont care about the quality of the resources used.
One other caveat. all stats of "recycled" materials are 200 across the board.
Hope this answers your questions.
