I chose the Mini Cu Pa and set it in my house. When I did I thought I selected the wrong reward until I examined it.

It just hadnt loaded yet. It will look just like it does in the /examine screen when you give it a second.

i have one (bought, not claimed personally) and it looks just like a miniature cu pa. of course any bio-engineer can craft a cu pa to use as furniture

It took a few mins to get close enough to take the screenshot and to clean up my hud.

My stormtrooper armor and mutant acklay trophy do the same thing. If you look at them from a distance, they look very low polygon. But when I walk closer, and change the angle that I'm looking at them, they become more detailed.
I suspect it's some kind of graphics bug with certain items.

I think there is a setting in the graphics tab to increase static object detail, etc. Try that.
