Thread: Re-deeding reward pets discuss

Preable:

I was on the trade forums looking to buy a Varactyl in deed form to put in my house as a decoration. I had just gotten a Kashyyyk Bantha from a Wookiee-world quest, and I plopped it down in my character's house to greet people who might come to visit. I then thought how cool it would be to set up a little zoo exhibition in a large house or guildhall with different game animals kicking around the place. But alas, I realized I can't add my varactyl to the collection since I've undeeded it.

Rationale:

How cool would it be if we could take our reward non-CH mounts and re-deed them to use as decorations? I know that there must be others in my boat who are torn between using their mounts and saving them for home decor/uniqueness. How hard would it be to give players the option to use them in both ways.

What might happen is that any training or abilitiies given to a pet would be erased, so that the pet would need to be retraiined if it were placed back into a player's datapad.

My main concern is that right now, there is no way to move a pet back into deed form, and I can't see any harm in having that ability added to the galaxies.

Scope:

I think this might apply to Bio-Engineer animals as well, but I'd worry such a move might hurt the BE economy. Another point for discussion. I think limiting it to one-time reward pets such as the Bolotaur, Kashyyyk Bantha, and Varactyl mounts would be a great change to make to a core-system.

What does everyone think? Comments are most welcome.

Can someone at least tell me if I'm in the right forum?

if you could redeed pets it would suck for be's cause ch's would use a pet till they got higher level than it then just redeed it and sell it on to make some cash back only advantage this would have is if they alowed ch's to deed trained pets for sale.

That's a very good point. It could definitely hurt the BE economy to have a pet redeed in place. But I think reward pets are an exception. BEs cannot make more of them, the quests to get them are not repeatable (unless something changed recently), and some of these are only one per account (varactyl for example). I know players like to use exotic pets as decorations in their homes, and BE pets often fit the bill. But why not make a re-deed exceptionfor pets that players cannot create from the environment. Is it impossible to create a separate piece ofcode to differentiatepets that aren't created by engineering?

As an aside. One trick for CHs who want to trade trained pets is to havea BE friend make a saleable item (pet deed)with contact info of the CH attached to the item, and have the friend put that on the bazaar as a long term auction. People looking for pets can browse through the deeds and see not only can they buy pets from the BE, they can also have them trained by the CH. Just a little rambling tangent there.

Thanks for listening.

Re-Deeding BE pets or even Deeding wild pets would not affect the BE economy in the slightest. For one thing, pets are already tradable directly from the datapad. And the main purpose almost everyone would use it for would be to store these pets in their house or bank.

With the new pet system 22 pet slots is not enough when you consider that we want to keep our old pets in addition to all these new pets with abilities. And we really can't even start on our actual combat pets till we learn most of the abilities.

Allowing fresh wild pets (0xp) with abilities to be deeded is another matter. Although I'm not entirely against it.

Interesting take on it. I hadn't even thought of deeding wild pets as a way of storage. That would make for some cool zoos out there.

I think that customizing the game through decorations is one of the amazing features of SWG that puts it above other MMOs. Although I'm still looking for more discussion on this topic, I really appreciate the points made already.
