alright like 3 ppl said u need master commado and 3 said master bounty hunter so wat do u need for the proton rifle not carbine RIFLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another good question would be if that thing uses heavy weapon mods or rifle mods since it is categorised as a rifle and not heavy weapon.

People get the Proton Rifle and the Proton Carbine mixed up. The Proton Carbine is for MBH (and a fine weapon it is).

Proton Carbine: Master Bounty Hunter required, quest weapon from the guy wearing wook armor on the right side of the Ryatt Trail as you come in, uses carbine mods


Proton Rifle: Master Commando required, Necro drop, uses Heavy Weapon mods. Even though it says it has a damage radius, its a single target weapon unles you get one of the few that were actually "fixed" with Pub 19.
