Uhhh.... hi, welcome to the forums, where the purpose is the exhchange of ideas, comments and discussion.
You said "neopagan"!
Yes, and I see you can access m-w.com! Hooray; this was exactly my intention. Seeing as the majority of forum memembers will be Earthlings, I used an easily defined modern term to describe the nature-based, goddess-worshipping relgious practices of the Wook. I was not suggesting that they would actually describe themselves as neopagan, nor that the term would be used in the actual Star Wars Universe.
'"Potion" is a Middle English term ...and should have been called something along the lines of "liquid" or "beverage" or even "concoction", but not "potion", "elixir" or "philter". "Mysterious Tomes" - While "tome" is simply defined as one of several volumes in a series of books or a single large book, the connotation of the word does not fit the Star Wars milieu simply because it is associated (esp. among gamers) with spell books and such. Try to imagine Han Solo calling out, "Hey Chewie! Toss me that Hyperdrive Repair tome!" It just doesn't fit.'
This is exactly why you don't see Hyperdrive Repair Tomes or Droid Lubricating Potions.... you see "mystical" tomes and various potions, components, and other mojo used by the "insert whatever magick-using religious tribe adjective you prefer" Sayormi/Kerritamba (and probably Nightsister, Singing Mountain Clan, Pawnshee, etc). The shamanistic trappings of Kashyyyk are just another aspect of the Star Wars universe that has always been there but is just being more fully explored.
To say that words like voodoo and potion shouldn't be used is absolutely silly. The vast majority of items in the game are modern english words. For what reason would we have "guns" and "brandy" but not potion or voodoo? Should the devs replace all of the words we use here on Earth with more Star Wars-y terms?
This sounds just a little bitlike selective comprehension to me. You selected the term neopagan [sic - I know it's hyphenated] because you concluded that it was appropriate to your audience, but acknowledged that it would not likely be a term Wooks would use to describe themselves. On this basis I would assert that it would be inappropriate for a POI on Kashyyyk to be named "Neo-pagan Temple Grove" or for that matter, even "Pagan Temple Grove". I would not however object to "Temple Grove" or "Myydriil Temple Grove". The former terms assert a Earthly perspective, while the latter do not, and therein lies the difference.
BTW: You described Kashyyykian religeon as "goddess-worshipping" ... Is there some good basis to that assertion? It strikes me as not unreasonable, as we know they are matriarchal and "live in harmony withnature", but I have never seen anything that would explicitly support the idea of goddess-worship. I have always assumed a culture similar to a modern and technologically sophisticated evolution of American Indian animism. If you have any specific sources, I would love to hear about them.
Words like "guns" and "brandy" are appropriate because they are the terminology of the Star Wars world - "Voodoo" and "Tome" are not. Granted it is a little odd that everyone in this distant galaxy speaks English, but Thank The Maker - they do. And terms like these are used frequently.
The audience for this game is clearly the denizens of Earth, and primarily English-speaking ones, but that does not mean that the appropriate language to be used in all aspects of the game, is restricted only to words or ideas familiar to such people. Any accomplished fiction author recognizes the need when writing dialog to write in a style different from the speech of one's market, especially when the setting for the story is another time or place (Star Wars is set in a very differenttime and place). This use of appropriate language in a novel, is a device that is used to help create an immersive and believable milieu.
The same rules apply in game design, as the goal of creating an immersive, believable milieu is still present. The situation however is more complex in a game like this one, as everything should be described in terms which not only will be understood by the player, but would be part of the player's character's vocabulary, and do not color ideas inappropriately. Characters in the Star Wars universe are certainly familiar with the idea of long-distance communication, but would never tell someone to "ring me on my cellphone", and while music is a popular form of art and entertainment, they would not "stop by a record store to pick up an R&B CD". In the case of the "Voodoo Doll", as an example, our characters' vocabularies would not contain the word "Voodoo" (as it is the name of a specific religeon practiced on Earth) any more than they would be familiar with the terms "Intel-based" or "Czechoslavakian". Our characters would likely see this item as a "crude doll" or (if they were familiar with the concepts of primitive magic/religeous practices) a "ritual effigy" or a "Sayori ceremonial doll" [sp?].

Hell i have some complaint letters to write then. My Han Solo AND Boba Fett action figure didn't come with their light sabers (1) (support characters rarely have them)Same with my Stormtrooper and R2-D2 one (2) (see above)You know games too! When I played Star Wars Bounty Hunter or Republic Commando I never got to use my lightsaber!(3) (and the developer didnt get to make a buck either)And when I read Tale from the Mos Eisley Cantina(4) (lowest selling of the Jedi Addons)and the Han Solo Trilogy(5)( i believe Jacen and Jana and the central character Anakin were all lil jedi)I didnt get to read great adventure stories of jedi. Lucas you have some explaining to do.
I also need this memo on how post counts represent the entire game. Jedi are a part of the game.(6) (they are the reason the masses embrace Star Wars)When I log on I go overt, kill some Rebels, do some quests, go on my alt and craft some stuff, sell it. Fight some NPCs in space. Nothing really involved with Jedi.(Whatever, no friggin comment cause really nothing to comment on)(wow I've never met someone who doesnt go overt hi my name is necroz may i blackbar u?)Besides so far the only role I see Jedi as in this game so far is to grind and get hunted.(See Above)(PvP is the other use my creature grinding friend)Dont see what else they do. Like I said before they are a part of the game, they are not the game.(7)(yeah they are)
I have, to this day never grinded a Jedi nor will I...I have been to the village only to blackbar Rebels who go there overt...that being the case though does not change what Star Wars is...Star Wars is the (8)Tale of a Family called Skywalker, who are all Adepts of a "hokey religion" that allows people to move object with their minds like a mage, force people to do their bidding like a witch, and fight with a glowing saber...doesn'tget any plainer than that...
that u like a bit part player in the series like Han Solo or Boba Fett does not change the spirit nor the context of the Universe
I am the Mad Rifleman, and here is my rebuttle
1- Support Characters make the story, a story just about main characters is a dead story.
2-See above.
3- Commando did quit well, also "X-WING VS TIE-FIGHTER" is one of the best games ever made for Star Wars games and had nothing to do with Jedi.
4- Where are your sales figures to back that up?
5- "Han Solo trilogy" is about Han before Episode IV, no Jedi kids.
6- No the reason the masses embrace Star Wars is because it is a "Faust Tale", were Vader (Faust) sell's his soul to the Emperor (devil) for power and Vader is redeemed by his son's love.
7- They are a symbol of power and are used to show that if you have power you must use it wisely or it will consume you as it consumed Vader.
8- It's a Faust Tale pure and simple.

There are many that play. Monoxide187 is on our forums. Most don't have the name though. One of the JEdi on Radiant is named Darklotus Blackrain because the owner unlocked when the disc dropped.

You're either a Jedi or a cynic.Either way, do a poll on people's favorite Star Wars characters. I will guarantee you that no Jedi will come in first--maybe not even second. I'd say Han and Boba would monopolize the top two slots.
This game--this universe--is about a LOT more than just Jedi.
I like Ewoks, Ewoks like voodo dolls, feathered headresses and favor shamanism as their ritualistic form....what of it?
