I don't believe that lag is the major problem, it's actually been happening with some regularity since the new NPC attacks went in. Since then they will do AOE attacks and knock you off your bike,av21,lava skiff or mount just by going near them. If you go surveying around the ruins where many NPC's spawn, count on losing whatever your riding!
