Thread: Did you expect to become an ID when you started playing SWG?

Hello fellow image designers. My character is Thomaas on Lowca and he has been an image designer for some time now. For how long, I am unsure, but I believe I became one just after image designers gained the ability to give stat migrations. I think it is very funny that this is the profession that I would consider myself to be at this time. When I first started to play SWG, I thought I would be a bounty hunter, but I never reached that goal. In fact, after looking over the professions, I pretty much initially written off ID as a profession that I would never try.

Well, I’m still here, and I don’t plan on leaving any time soon. In fact, I have been calculating how I will have to distribute my skill points post CU, around the profession of ID, so that I can remain a master. Lowca and every other server needs ID’s. When a player comes up to me and his eyes, nose, and mouth are all within a square inch, I am here to help. When a player upgrades his video card, and realizes that for six months, his character has been running around with his age slider at max, I am here to help. And when a player looks like they’ve been hit with a flaming sack of nickels across the face... well, you get the point.

I think that it is funny that I became a profession that I said that I would never become on day one. How about the rest of you? Did you expect to become ID’s in your SWG career?

Flaming sack of nickels... *chortles*

Honestly no, I had ZERO plans to be an ID. I was originally planning to be a tailor. I love clothing, and HATED the low-level clothing available when the game first launched. So I started crafting... it took me three weeks just to gain domestic arts 4. I am NOT a patient person. LOL So I decided 'nah'. Moved to pistoleer, and really enjoyed it. I don't know what made me choose that as my combat profession either, but it's fun. I prefer ranged to melee. Then... I discovered that infiltration suits could be made to match skin color. Oh, the possibilities that opened up to me then! I participated in a fashion show early in the game (after our server FINALLY had a couple of master tailors) and for my last turn on the runway, I wore a deep purple infilt suit that exactly matched the purple skin tone one of the IDs had given me. I thought it was hilarious and immediately set out to become a master ID.

Then they nerfed the infilt suits, but oh well, I enjoyed it while it lasted.

I still remember my first experience with ID. It was on Bria, the first server I made a character on (she still exists too, master dancer now) and someone in the entertainer group patiently explained how the ID process worked. By the time I had tried it out, they had GARISH yellow eyeshadow and I was sporting the classy 'my lekku are strangling me' look. I was hooked! LOL

ID was actually my primary career that I planned my template around. Tailor was planned shortly after that, when I actually got into beta and started salivating uncontrollably about the clothes. There was something fascinating about saying "I am going to be a hairdresser" in an MMO - and this was before I had even read much about the game. My friends laughed at me, and I told them to shove it.

When I read about the entertainer professions I KNEW I wanted to be an ID. I mastered about a month after release and have thoroughly enjoyed the skill. I cannot imagine ever giving it up.

I fell into Entertainment totally by chance. I had created a crafting/combat character, but decided that combat in SWG just wasn't for me, so I dropped for a pure crafting template. A couple of months later (beginning of August 03) I decided to create a new comabat character to see if I could find any redeeming qualities about combat.

I started grinding my combat xp when I stumbled upon ajuvenile krayt (no speeders or mounts back in those days, so I tried to /burstrun my way out of the situation) and I was instantly incapped and deathblowed. That's when I decided this combat character would be able to heal all his wounds and BF by himself, so I picked up Novice Medic and Novice Entertainer. A short while later, I bumbled my way into the Fallen Star cantina in Mos Entha, and met my first Entertainer friend. I played music and danced with her, and when we ran out of action, we spent our time ID'ing one another until we ran out of mind...then we went right back to playing music or dancing.

After I had Mastered Entertainer, I realized I loved Entertaining so much, there is little else in Galaxies I really want to do. Since then I've earned multiple masteries on several characters in ID, Dance, and Music. I love all of them, and wouldn't have even considered trying them except for my originally selfish desires to not have to depend on anyone.

I think ID was the last proffesion I thought I would ever be. I allways wanted to be a DE because I thought I would craft and control powerful combat droids, when that dream was shattered I played about with various combat proffesions, had a small spell as a master artisan and even went smuggler for a little while.

After mastering musician I decided to try for master ent so I could play the mando. When I started doing the ID line I found it incredibly fun. Now I couldn't live without ID in my template.

I've recently re rolled my character to get a human, the only thing I will really miss are the proffesion badges showing what I've done during my time. I'll probably grind the proffesions out again just for the badge

Well my main toon, as you can see,is total combant...gets a bit dull after awhile and I need a break, so I created an alt thats mid, dancer, musician, entertainer. Started as dancer, was ok. Moved onto musician, lil more fun. Then I thought I'd dabble in ID so I could change my makeup. It was love at first skill...I couldn't stop lol. I justadore helping people change their look! Stats are fine and all, but I prefer the real ID skills and make just as much in tips.

I used to go and see my ID friends so often and have things changed or just sit around and talk and let them train on me that i just ditched swords/ranger and went master entertainer, master ID just because i wanted to see if it was as fun as it looked.

The ppl i met in doing ID were great.

If only i could afford a second char i would always be master ID/tailor and still keep my CH/ranger/rifles. I miss it so much.
