Thread: Marriage and why its in the ID Forum

Marriage as it is is just a minor RP feature with a bit of game design support...but not much.
So here is my idea:
First, change the current marriage system to engagement.
Second, make it part of the ID profession to play the role of priest/judge/starship captain/etc.
The actual ceremonies wouldnt change much since they are basically RP powered.
The character that proposedwould keep their last name. The character proposed to, would have theirs changed when the ID officiated that marriage to match.
Both characters would get a badge displaying their marital status and who its with.
It seems like a small change and it is, but it would be a worthy stone to kill two birds people complain about often.

great idea! But too bad the curb is killing all hope for this game. Many people will be leaving. I would support an idea like this, after all, at my ingame wedding we forgot all about a priest at it. So we were all just standing around till someone got the nerve to go play priest lol.

Interesting idea. I especially like the idea of people getting married getting to change their last name to the other person's, although that would HAVE to be optional. There are a lot of people who don't want theirs changed or would rather have it hyphenated, like mine is. I don't even know if it's possible to make that a player ability though, because when I got my last name changed in game, our CSR told me that in order to do that, they have to temporarily change the first name as well. That made me unspeakably nervous... I had visions of something going wrong and not being able to call my droid, get into my house, etc. I dunno if I would want players to be able to do THAT. LOL

I myself, wouldn't want to do that. However, it's a GREAT IDEA. More people should have really great ideas, even if SOE says no. At least we're positive and we're thinking.

Sounds like an awesome idea to me!! I'd be all for it, would add a lot more fun to our profession.. One thing I do wonder about however, what happens when they divorce? LOL

I guess their names would just revert back?
