Thread: How to make a pretty clicky link

I saw this discussed in the ID UI discussion thread so figured I'dwrite a quick how to on making pretty clicky links

So you've typed the following sentence and now want to make the word "here" into a link:

To see my Image Designwebsitego here.

You will have to click on "Edit as HTML" (by default you are in the "Graphical Editor"). You cannot go back to the "Graphical Editor" once you've typed up the link info in the "Edit as HTML" section (or you will lose your link work)so make sure you're done typing everything you're going to type.

Once in the"Edit as HTML" section, type the following around the word "here":

To see my Image Designwebsite go <a href="http://www.blah.com">here</a>.

Then submit post. Be sure to put http://or it interprets your link as being within the forums, and messes all up.If you edit the post ever, you have to do the whole "Edit as HTML" thing from scratch.

For clicky links in your signature you might want to include target=blank like so:

To see my Image Design website go <a href="http://www.blah.com' target=blank>here</a>.

The target=blank makes your site open in a new browser page. People like that and it makes them more likely to keep your page open after they go back to forum surfing. Note the second set of quotation marks should be double ones like all the others " but if I type them in after com and then leave a space it does something weird with my text.

Note: Target=blank is not necessary when posting onthese forumsbecausethe links automatically open in a new window. This does not extend to our signatures however. To type up a signature, click on "My Profile" at the top of your forum screen and find the appropriate box to type in What I did was use Frontpage Express (comes with Microsoft Office) to get it how I wanted it, then went to their html editor to see what it looked like with code attached and copied and pasted that into My Profile.

How to make a sig the easy way:

Make sig in notepad (so you'll get single spacing on your lines)

Open a blank reply here and paste in your text. Format it as you want it (colors, centering, font size). Then hit "edit as html." All that html mess should appear. Add your links in with that

How to make your links different colors than the aqua default:

Once you get to the "edit as html" page you should see things that look like this: <FONT color=#ff0000>. Those are your font colors. The <font color=#xxxyyy> is your color and the </font> turns it off. Figure out which color you want your link and do the following: <a href="blah blah"target=blank><font color=#xxxyyy>here</font></a>. Then the link "here" should be the color you've indicated. That way you can make the links the same color as the rest of your text (as in my sig).

Ugh, I realized that my post above got garbled, but trying to edit made things worse... ok redoing it, highlighting stuff that got mysteriously eaten by the board monster.

Don't post it, silly!
