I don't think I ever expected Image Designer to be so irritating.
Don't get me wrong, I love doing it but some of the people out there.. they're so indecisive, and rude.
Here is my first day as an Image Designer experience.
So I decided to unload my skills in Bestine. My first three customers were great, they knew what they wanted.
"Bring my height down three notches"
"Make me as heavy and as short as you can, I want to look like a real chef" (which I found hilarious)
A Mon Cal wanted purple skin and orange markings, perfect.
Then it happened. A wandering girl with expensive clothing, and weapons, and rare loots came up to me and asked for some new hair.
She says... hey, I would like my hair done, so I set her up and ask her if she knows what she wants, and she tells me she doesn't. I figure, maybe she doesn't get out much ingame to know what she wants so I start to show her a few ID hairstyles.
SHE NEVER LIKED ANY OF THEM, and then she asks if there is some way I can do her hair "differently from others".
I thought that was a bit silly, and I told her no and she got MAD at me? So she swears, and says "okay just give me your hair" after fussing through the hairstyles again so I do.
She disbands, RUNS, says starport to her friend and stiffs me.
I wouldn't have minded being stiffed by someone who wasn't so difficult, but sheesh!
The second person made me wait for over an hour for her to figure out which style she wanted, she was a little more helpful, but for the first 30 minutes it was an absolute horror to image design her. She asks me to do "whatever you think looks good" so I give her some styles, and she keeps saying "ewwww not me.."
Okay uh, didn't she ask me WHAT I THOUGHT LOOKED GOOD? People need to be better with words.
I am sure you have all encountered such problems before.
I have decided I am going to set a price for every 5 hairstyles. 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, etc.
Everytime someone refuses me, without being specific, they pay 500 creds.
I think it's a good system, feel free to give advice without flaming me.
I know Kwee, and Sir can offer excellent advice.

You poor thing, what an awful experience (with the last two). Definitely ask questions to narrow down what they are looking for. Short/long/medium? Conservative or funky? Then show them a small selection of what you have. If they say they want to see all the options, I refer them to the Warcry screenshots if it's hair (b/c those are the ones I put up hehe) or Pani's site for anything else. I ask them to alt tab out of game and take a peek. People are usually eager to see screenshots.
If this continues to be a problem, I know some Image Designers have a price increase after a certian amount of time. I've had luck combining narrowing down by asking questions and referring them to a screenshot site.
Your proposed system would prob not be viewed kindly by customers. Even someone with a pretty good idea of what they're looking forwill want to see at least three or four styles. Since hair is one of the more time consuming things to work on perhaps you could consider a system of (just an example) 2k if they know exactly which hairstyle or 4k if they would like to preview styles.
Good luck!

You're right, that is a better idea Kwee.
I referred them to warcry a few times actually, I hope next time they come to me they will know what they want.
I don't remember their name's for the life of me.

Last night I was Iding one person who knew what she wanted. Finish with her in about 3 minutes. Then her friend in group wanted a hair and eyecolor change. Ended up changing height, jaw, cheeks, eyecolor, hair, and facial hair. But to make things worse he'd wait past the timeout before accepting, so I'd have to do the change again. He also couldn't understand that nobody but him could see the changes at the refuse/accept dialogue. By itself this wasn't bad except I had a friend on for the first time in a while who was about to log off and wanted some changes.
I haven't been stiffed in a while though, I guess I'm about due!

Almost the same thing happened to me, Tobie.
A guy messages me as the shuttle arrives and says "Can you quickly change my hair?" I was thinking I would have time to hop the shuttle and be in Theed for some fun Image Desiging (I always get a lot of clients there). So, he asks for the fallen mohawk, I change it and disband the group. He then says "Wait! Can you change my eyebrows?"
Twenty minutes later--and with a line-up of three other people--I've compeltely re-done this guy. It was starting to be annoying since he would accept and then say "This isn't what I want". Thankfully one of the other client had some brandy for me!
You'll get some rather difficult customers.. but sometimes you'll get the perfect customer that tips you a great deal of money (and brings friends!) andtells you how thankful they are for a real Image Designer.

I've never gone to Theed to ID, I don't want to go near Kwee's territory for fear of being sacked =P
I stay on Corellia or Dantooine where it's safe.
The funniest part of the above post of mine is that everyone in that person's group that I was IDing at the end logged because it was getting too late.

Tatooine! Ewwwww...
I'm a staunch Corellian. Except when I need clothes, since Corellia doesn't have many tailors.

I think I am doing pretty well for my first day. People told me they would be back because I am so patient with them.
If an ID takes over 30 minutes though, I lose my cool. Especially if they leave it up to me and then tell me it isn't original enough, come on it's Star Wars Galaxies!

20 minutes is about where I start to lose it, well unless in that 20 minutes we've done a lot of different changes. Of course a chatty and fun customer can take aslong as they want

I love the social customers who RP, I RP a little bit ingame.
The first girl who was very rude to me would let the ID time out and run in circles.
I have a feeling she was just doing it because she was... angry about something? I don't know. Maybe she wanted my armband. I saw her asking about them.
