Thread: So, uh, how does this happen?

Hi ID Folk!

Yes, it's true, I'm not primarily an ID. I'm a Master Musician and Master Entertainer. However, I'm also a Novice ID (0 3 0 0). I have a small tale to tell and it seems most relevent to post it here. I have Novice ID for fun and an alternative way to make a few credits now and again. I am not going to master it so when I am in the tent I just usually play away until a customer comes. I don't ID myself or others over and over to grind. I will let anaspiring MID migrate me over and over if they wish...

Ok, on to my tale...this is from a month-ish ago...

I was in the Gypsy Court tent village on Bria (outside a player city, but still a failry remote spot) jammin' at the party on the Nalargon. I get a tell from a stranger saying that he "Requests the use of my services, and would pay". I replied, "Sure thing, here is my waypoint come on by".Now here is where I made a mistake. Probalby 99.5% of my game time I have the title "Master Musician" up, but that night I had my "Novice Image Designer" title up. I *assumed* (yeah, I know)he wanted a mind buff from me and was quite pleased he sent a tell to a live musician instead of going to a 'bot. I had planned on taking him into one of the tents at the village and sending him on his way.

However, he arrives at the village and I realize the mistake I've made. When this customer comes he is wearing what I refer to as the Standard Issue Combat Zabrak (tm) look. That means he is wearing black composite armor, red eyes, and red facial tattoos holding a T-21 rifle. The only thing that is out of place with this Zabrak's standard issue attire is that he is wearing no pants. Thats right, he's standing there as well armored as an individual could be in SWG aside from his vulnerable (and likely cold from the chill) hind quarters.

It was then I realized what he wanted...a stat migration, so he could wear hispants andprotect his vaulable assets. Then I felt bad for the guy since it was my fault he came out all this way for somethign I can't provide him in our current location. I apologized and explained I thought he wanted a Music buff. He replies, "No man, I want a migration so I can wear this stuff, it cost me 600k just for the armor." I explain that it likely wont work with just a migration and he'll likely need to get buffed as well. However he still wants to try, and now I feel obligated to help him. So I ask him to meet me in C'net salon so I can do the migration.

So, Ihead to C'net(leaving my none-to-pleased girlfriend whom I'm leaving alone at a partyto run off with a pantless male Zabrak... <3 Kitsuney) and head to the Salon in C'net awaiting my new friend. He arrives and I ask if he has his stats set, and after a few moments of explaining that, I start the process. (this was before the reduction, so it was a 10 minute migrate) I finish up, and as per my prediction...he still can't put on his pants.

So I tell him he needs to get buffed. He says, "How do I do that?" I am now becoming a bit weary of him, and so I explain telling him we're in C'net so he could probalby just stroll to the Star Port and find a good Doc. This is where he gets a bit annoyed. He compleins to me that he has now spent close to a millon credtis on his armor, weapon, new speeder, and my migrate..and he still has to pay to get buffed to put on his pants? I confirmed this, and he wanders off...

I then get caught up in the work at the ID tent, so I hang out for an hour or so there. The party has already wrapped up so I hang out and make a few credits. My new friend finally returns, striding in with glee as he triumphantlly shows off his ability to were his trousers. I said, "Hey, seems like that did it finally..." He replies, "Yeah, but the Doc told me I now need a Mind buff to fight..can you do that, too? Oh, I'm out of cash now...lol"

I heave a bit of a sigh, and agree to Music Buff him. Primarily, because by now I know that this guy *has* to be a true newbie, or a good actor.(I did a /examine, no guild, no badges) I wanted his first impression of an entertainer to be one of a live ent (me in this case) that went out of his way to help him over an evening's play. So, since I can't buff him in the salon he and I go on yet another sojourn. We went to the Hotel (closest spot I could think of) and I music buffed him. He then thanks me and says after five hours of wandering he's ready to take some missions. I tell him to ..."Well go out there...and uhshoot stuff!"

So, finally, to my question...how did this guy's odd knowledge of the game come to be?

How do you know enogh to seek out expensive high end armor and a weapon, yet not know about buffs? How did he get nearly a millon credits without knowing squat about the game such that he could buy that armor? Also, he knew to seek an ID for his migration, and that a migration would likely help him?

I'd like to point out that at no time was he rude to me or anything of the sort. It just felt really weird that I had to explain basic game mechanics to a guy wearing armor that is for advanced combat activity.

So, yeah...how uh, did this happen?

sounds as if that guy bought the game and account "used" from someone else, but then I would have expected some badges... but maybe he was simply outfitted by a friend...

But however it happend, it's a nice story Thanks for sharing

If he bought the credits on Ebay, that still doesn't explain why he had a T21... unless he didn't realize he had to be a Rifleman to effectively use it.

It could be that previous times he had been hunting he had gotten buffed without realizing it, such as in a group or something like that. Or he could be playing on a friends account.

*shrug* I'd probably put money on Ebay and that he actually didn't have the skills to use the T21
