Image Designer Archive

I am just starting out my career as an image designer. For the first time yesterday I asked somebody if I can practice on them. They said sure. When I clicked on them and put in the command: /im it said I couldn't cause they need to be in my group.

Why is that? Do they always have to be in your group to change them? When I open my own shop do I always have to invite them to my group before I can change them? What happens if they are already in a group?

Then it would seem to be a bit of inconvience then to invite them to my group all of the time.
