Hi all you image designers! Im doing the jedi quests come tuesday and have big plans for my second slot character. I thought about it a while and decided to be an image designer and either weaponsmith or shipwright. Of course ill add some merchant to that to sell stuff and advertise. My question to you all is how long you think it will take me to get anywhere in ID if i casually play it. I will be grinding jedi most the time but during my break from jedi i will do ID or ws or sw when it comes out. Also any tips will help like macro's and what not. thanks all

Depends on what species you are. Some species cannot ID themselves for the first box and need help from a friend. After that you just have to remember to ID yourself when you are not doing anything else. If you are running between missions turn the interface on and then hit alt to hide it while you run. Sitting in a camp. Waiting for a shuttle. Just keep practising on yourself. The more established IDs will probably have more tips that they can give you.

what would be a good species to be for a ID/WS?

Hmm... since no species up to now gives any benefit to ID you should think about what you want:

Either you want primary a character that looks cool and stylish, then you should simply decide on which race looks the most like you imagine your ID/WS. If you want to be primary a good WS with ID-abilites, then you might want to choose either human (bonus on Artisan stuff), Mon Cal (bonus on WS stuff) or Rodian (bonus on WS stuff, too). If you happen to really like one of those species, then you are lucky and can get both rolled in one

But as with every other class it's mostly a matter of your taste which race you choose.

May the Force be with you all!

PS: btw: don't expect the FS-quests to be easy done. The 'new way' is long and full of stones, too.

Iwould say you should go human.

First off, humans do get the artisan bonuses... so that right there is a good reason, especially when doing WS.

AND, the image design business is all about looks. Honestly, if you want to be visually pleasing to the eye, you're best bet is human because it looks normal to the players.

(And that is not a dig at Wookies! )

Edit: WHO THE HECK ONE STARRED ME!? If it is who I think it is, I swear, I'm gonna call SOE about harrassment because I am really sick of your garbage. The first part is a fact... humans do get bonuses to their crafting. And the second part is common sense. I, personally, play a Zabrak. But the vast majority of players in this game play super-model-wannabe humans. And, if you walk into any REAL LIFE clothing store or salon... what do you see? Ugly, dumpy people who fell out of the ugly tree or people who are mostly attractive? I'm betting it isn't ugly dumpy people! Any dipsh!t with more than one brain cell would know that. So to whoever felt the need to one star my very innocent post, **edit** you.

To start out with:

(Female) Humans, Twi-leks and Zabraks can get makeup and all Humans, Bothans, Rodians, Trandoshans, Twi-leks, and Zabraks get hair/horns/lekku/ridges (etc) that they can practice on.

Wookiees and Mon Calamaris cannot practice on themselves until they get the ability to change eye color at Image Design 2 in Entertainer so if you chose one of these two races, and will be practicing on yourself, you will need help to get the first two skills. That takes at least an hour (10 x 1 minute for the first skill and 50 x 1 minute for the second + a little to account for lag etc). Once you make it to Novice ID, you can do stat migrations for xp and profit (I don't say "fun" because I don't regard stat migrations as fun).

If you have a steady victim to practice on, it really makes no difference what race you choose as the ID timer takes so long that you recover any mind you used for the change by the time you can make another one. Therefore, the primary considerations are:

  1. Will you be practicing on yourself or a victim

  2. What other skills you plan on taking

  3. What race(s) you like the best

Other than that, Humans have the largest number of hair styles, Trandoshans have very few ridge patterns and (aside from markings) Twi-leks don't have much variety with regards to their lekku.

Basically, choose whatever race you want to play and have fun... and don't forget that you can get one of those 14-day free trial accounts to use for your victim if you don't have any other easily accessible victim to practice on.

Rodians are great!! We may not have many style choices, but were kinda rare and tend to stand out more . I feel its much more challenging to get a unique look on a Rodian or Mon cal than most of the other races. Will it be male or female?

Good luck!

i think i made my choice, i like rodian but i have one on another server. This one will be a FISH!! lol Im gonna like being a fish. and of course its a male. I know that it will be hard at first for ID with mon cal but i can overcome that easy. still wondering if a macro for the victim to press accept while afk?

Check the stickied threads up top for a macro. Ithink in the FAQ.The practice victim can be afk, but you have to be atk.

Something I randomly found out yesterday, for anyone who cares to be mobile and grind casually -- you can ID yourself and then get on your bike and bike around. Then you can accept while you're still riding your bike. Since my house is five minutes bikeride from a starport, this pleases me immensely.

The auto-accept macro that I use can be found on on Kwees ID Guide which has a lot of other useful information.

I just got my Mon Cal up to Novice on Bria. It is do-able and fun!

Another thing I noticed on Test Center is that I can craft and ID myself at the same time. I start the ID session and then move it so I can see my crafting tools on the hotbars. Then I craft away. I think of it as letting my lekku moisturizing wrap set while I sew. Ya, we are all a bunch of weirdos. So that is another thing to think of if you are simultaneously doing a crafting prof. I do most of my tailor crafting while sitting in the very comfortable Bestine tent (love the pillows).
